what is this, and why is it all cut up?

Just got my car.... ive been having some idle problems and i think my car is running too rich, its blowing alot of white smoke

Im fairly new the fcs and have never seen this before, what is it and could it be causing some problems? to fix it should i get a whole new wiring harness?

looks like head/parking light stuff

rx7 FC TII 10-20-06 05:05 PM

is this turbo or na

JStewart 10-20-06 05:09 PM

White smoke would be coolant burning. And as for the wiring looks like somebody may have re-wired the fuel pump and messed w/ the parking/headlights like 86said

I know that its the fuel pump resistor relay... basically a relay to change the fuel pump voltage on a TII. im trying to figure out where all the wires should go on an NA harness at the moment... where did the previous owner hack all those things to?

KcKhan 10-20-06 11:14 PM

the previous owner had thrown in a turbo engine, its an n/a now, which is what it is supose to be

this is from his post when i bought the car

"The reason I am selling it is because I just installed this non-turbo motor, ECU, and wiring harness and cannot get the car to idle correctly. I had a TII setup on it before but somebody sugared my gas tank causing it to blow. The car sat for 18 months.
I changed the fuel pump, flushed the tank and gas lines, replaced the fuel filter and installed the rebuilt N/A motor, ECU and Harness.
My first issues was the clutch, I had to replace the slave and master cylinders, that solved that problem.
Next was the fuel pump, I had a rewired Walbro in it before and it worked fine, I drop the N/A pump in and the relay started going crazy. So I wired it up to OEM spec and that fixed the relay problem."

i guess my question is, should i just leave this how it is, or find a way to replace it all and clean it up, one wire had disconected cause the car to not hold an idle at all, it would jump to 3k then drop right back down and die

i would clean it all up cause i wouldnt want my car to look like shit. not saying it does but i cant stand when something is messed up when it should be

WHERE is this picture taken from? The front or the rear of the car?

Does this car drive?

IF this car is drivable, after it's been running for say a half hour, do you lose coolant? Does it overheat?

IF this car is not driveable, then fill it up with coolant. Then MAKE the thing stay running for a half hour. IF water overflows out the catch tank and or it overheats, I'd concentrate on fixing the motor and forget about the fuel pump for now.

Well, it is the fuel pump resistor for a TII, but i dont see a injector resistors either... dude, you need to get the FSM and recheck all those connections with the wire schematic. I think the guy FUBAR'd it

deagle50ae 10-21-06 03:50 PM

first thing to do is go buy a solder iron, solder, 16ga wire(NOT solid core) and shrink wrap and clean all those wires up. crimps do NOT belong in an engine bay. solder them and shrink wrap them for water resistance and a solid connection.

thick white smoke depending on the smell of it could also be oil burning. he could possibly have a leaking oil seal on one of the rotors

toplessFC3Sman 10-21-06 04:55 PM

what are all the wires there connected to?
