what turbo modifacation will give me 350hp????

what will I have to get done to my turbo to give me 350hp??????

jreynish 11-19-03 03:42 PM

ROFL... One mod will not get you there;
these will;
upgraded turbo most likely T04 of some sort, external wastegate, and aftermarket BOV, and Good FMIC,
upgraded fuel injectors and high flow fuel pump,
some sort of engine management system piggy back or stand alone (stand alone more suited to those numbers),
free flowing exhaust,
Cold air intake,
good clutch to hold the power,
and finally an engine rebuild with a good sized street port!
good luck.

jreynish 11-19-03 04:26 PM

This is assuming you already have a turbo engine... if not then you will have to buy a jspec as well!
The reason I add this is because in your profile it says N/A.

Avatar 11-19-03 09:07 PM

if you have a N/A change your gearbox and diff as well.
A good size front mounted intercooler should be installed the standard thing will not handle that.

If you keep boost to like 10 psi will the stock IC stand it ?

Those are enough mods for 400+ hp. :p:

Yes.

Yes, but you want the same mods for 350hp. Just the boost could be turned down some.

And the stock IC can "handle" 10psi...on the stock turbo. Not aftermarket at all. An intercooler is a mod that should not be halfassed.

MtnRacer 11-20-03 12:17 AM

A hybrid turbo, fuel mods, EMS, clutch, and full intake/exhaust will make 350 bhp no problem. Streetport, intercooler, wastegate, CAI, etc, while good ideas, aren't really "necessary." :)

I dont' know you would need a hyrbid like mine... which is much closer to a t04 turbo! than it is to a hyrbid t3/t4! so that doesn't work so well either... But I would think that you would want a good t04! because otherwise you will not be making safe power... a smaller turbo would work harder to make that kind of power making it's life shorter and costing money more often! I would think that a t04 will work just fine doesn't have to be the biggest package but a good one none the less.

Thats my opinion as well. I have a hybrid and I know I wasn't making 350bhp before. Closer to 290bhp actually. AND I figured these were RWHP numbers evreyone was referring to.

MtnRacer 11-20-03 10:05 AM

The trick to getting the most out of your turbo is the EMS. My buddy's 10AE had a haltech and a hybrid T04E, it put close to 300 to the ground(~350 bhp) untuned, which is where I came up with these numbers. I myself am planning on doing 300 to the ground with a super v or possibly an H trim compressor, I'll let you guys know if I reach my goal. :)

I usually assume that newbies are always talking bhp if they ask these kinds of questions. If they're talking rwhp, they're probably not asking these questions in the first place. :D

I have everything I need to get to 350 hp i.e.
FMIC
LARGER INJECTORS AND PUMP
S-AFC
EXHAUST
INTAKE
FCD
ADJ. BOOST CONTROL
RACING PLUGS
8.5MM LEADS
etc etc etc

I just would like to know what needs to be done to my turbo. I have read about 60 - 1 conversions, is there any specific dimensions for the compressor wheel and housing that works best for the RX7, or can I just tell the place that does it I want a 60 - 1 conversion.

thanks jeyjey

jreynish 11-20-03 01:00 PM

you will most likely want to do stand alone for anything over about 250/270hp. Because at that stage of the game your enigne will have a longer life it being able to adjust timming for the boost and power curve.
But since you are asking I have most likely the largest Hyrbid there is, It has a TO4E exhuast wheen and a TO4R Compressor wheel, that should but down 350 to the wheels but IMHO it will be maxing out. When I get on they dyno with it in the spring I will let everyone know.

jeyjey 11-20-03 01:03 PM

could I use something to control the timing then or not ?

jeyjey 11-20-03 02:13 PM

any body got any other ratios?

what setup are you running?

I was looking at around getting 300 rwhp

jreynish 11-20-03 02:40 PM

then you can most likely do it with a GOOD hyrbid turbo!
But I would source out something like Microtech LT-8, Haltech E6K or E11, or if you want piggy back with fuel and timming you can take a look at the Greddy E-manage, but for the price of the greddy e-manage you would be better off to get a stand alone for the little extra dollars you would have left.
IMHO sell the SAFC and buy a good stand alone computer!

3" TID, 3" DP/MP, FMIC, t04B hybrid turbo @ 1BAR. But I did have low compression, stock ports and a one side clogged stock catback. I am about done with a large streetport and rebuild and will have a different exhaust and tuned. Hoping for closer to the 350bhp.

do you know the ratios for your t04B and did you do anything with your timing?

rusaccord 11-20-03 06:25 PM

Would the increased piping length of an FMIC detract from the overall effect? Sorry to jack your thread.

jreynish 11-20-03 06:45 PM

no It would not the gains from the good front mount would more than make up for any loss that may occur. and if the pipes are desinged with the least amount of bends and are mandrel bent then the gains from a good FMIC would more than out weigh the extra ducting to and from the FMIC.

do racing plugs= platinum or irridium NGK's???

No I don't know the exact specs for the turbo, as in compressor maps. Just its a T04B compressor housing/wheel, 360 degree thrust bearing, turbine housing machined for a stage 3 wheel, and wastegate ported all to hell with a larger flapper welded on.

And I have never messed with the timing at all.

Donn Hecht 11-21-03 01:24 PM

Ryde or Die whats up buddy ? How are you?
So let me ask you, im curious to know how much RWHP is that set up that your running with that turbo good for ? Also what kind of F.Pump are use using ? And do you have a diffrent fuel rail (aftermarket, like KRD's) ?
