I just want to go to Advanced or auto Zone or Pepe Boys or Wal-Mart and get some new oil for the tranny. I am not looking to get the best, I just need to be able to put my hands on it locally and for it not to ruin my tranny!

What is out there locally available?

The best results and the best for your car are to be had using Neo, Royal Purple, Red Line synthetics. Both in the xmission and in the rear end.

 

RED LINE, made my about to blow up tranny last a another year, made it much quiter, ****** much smoother!!

thanks guy for not even coming close to answering the question. I said I didnt need the best - I needed something I could get my hands on NOW LOCALLY.

Then I can swap it with good stuff later. the car is new to me and I ma trying to get the fluids changed to see how bad they are.

I have no idea where to get REDLINE locally.

where do you get this redline cause advanced auto is the only place I see redline oil but they dont have tranny fluid or gear oil

 

You can put in any 90w oil, but a synthetic is going to help your tranny last longer. Usually you can find redline at the smaller import parts shops.

 

Best I've ever used is pennzoil syncromesh, get it at any autozone. Worked better than redline for me on quieting scratchy syncros.

 

go to advance auto parts....i work at advance, im pretty sure you can order that redline at advance, my store has it. although in my turbo II, i changed my clutch which included removing the driveshaft and a lot of fluid leaked out so i filled it with cheap coastal 80w-90 but ive already bought valvoline 80w90 to use when i change my shifter bushing (within 100 miles). Coastal fluid makes the transmission kinda loud and rattly i think, i am gonna use regualr valvoline, but we sell synthetic valvoline and syntec-blend valvoline. i wanna now what the capacity of my turbo trans is? probably about 2 bottles. i've heard that automatic transmission fluid will make a manual bite harder, but i think it might mess up the trans, anybody know?

 

I'm really happy using AmSoil full synthetic, I picked it up @ an A&A Autoparts. Honestly, unless you plan on really pushing the car hard, any full synthetic would be a good choice that will get you through for quite a while

Oh, and save yourself the headache and get a little pump that screws onto the bottles.. if you've never changed tranny fluid while the tranny is in a car, you won't understand how annoying it is, for the 6 bucks for a little push pump, it cuts the job down from 45 minutes to 10 or 20..

 

Use any 75W90 full synthetic, GL-5 compatable.
