What are these??? (Pics attached)
Does any one know what this is and what it does?
|
Also I have two cables comming out of the bottom of this thing, the larger one is not connected to anything and I can not really see a place to connect it to. Can any tell me if it needs to be connected to anything and what it is supposed to do?
|
the second thing, is the charcole canister. It's a vent for the gas tank. The fumes go through the canister to kill any smell they may have when the car is parked. I have had mine removed for about 2 years now, and don't smell any fuel
|
Dunno what is going on in that first one. The second one is the charcoal canister, and they are hoses not cables. It absorbs fuel vapors from the gas tank and stores them for later burning to reduce pollution. Read up on it in the service manual, I think you can download a copy at fc3s.org.

OK I've checked the FSM, the charcoal canister has two connection, both of them are at the top. So does anyone know what sits below the canister that will have a hose connection?
The first one is under the car, near the CAT, as far as I can see it is a piece os steel connected to insulated wire, the picture just shows the tip of it being cable tied down. |
Maybe the speedometer cable? A better picture would be helpful.
|
Hmm... speedo works fine, I'll try and get a better picture of it, however the cable is not very long, is there any sensor that gets placed into the exhaust system that far down?
|
could it be the heat hazard sensor? The FSM seems to have this under the passenger seat.
|
is your car RHD? I'm guessing it is. in north america the charcoal can (pic 2). is on the other side of the car. and both hoses go to the firewall and run along to the other side. where they connect into the vac spider under the intake manifold.
it also has a connection on the bottom as well. which just has a drain line hanging down lose. |
Cute cat ERAU...

thanks guys

1st one looks like a zip tie holding on a muffler hanger
|
mmm... looks like emergency brake jimmy rig?

Originally posted by Kenteth mmm... looks like emergency brake jimmy rig? The long bit in the middle is the cable that attaches to the actual hand brake in the car. That piece of metal is what splits the cables to each back wheel. Each one of those two holes holds a line that goes to each back wheel. It has just been zip tied to the car so it doesn't dangle on the ground. When you pull the brake lever, and feel resistance - it's not actually your brakes, it's the cable pulling on that zip tie! Chances are that you'll need both cables for the rear wheels, and depending on what kind of shape it is, you may need the main cable as well |
Here, I think that the part that's circled in red is what you have tiewrapped to the car. The pieces that attach to it are long gone.
Get someone to sit in the car and pull the e-brake while you are looking under the car. If the thing moves, you've found it! https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=2044107 |
Sorry Nick86, but my hand brake works fine.
I took the car to a mechanic to find out what it was, apparently this only appears on imports, as some sort of exhaust sensor. |
um, i dont know what crack ball told you that one but i dont think there is jus a senser hanging under the rx7...corrrect me if im wrong anyone but that doesnt sound like reasonable answer at all.

I think it is a muffler hanger rebuild kit. :)
|
Actually there is a exhaust temp sensor... its the EGT sensor light thats on the idiot cluster.... crack ball.
|
yeah the first one looks like it has something to do with the exhaust.what exhaust setup do you have?
|
The hose coming out of the bottom of the canister doesnt connect to anything.
