What size flange...
 

i have a hks ssqv BOV, now I'm shoping for a flange. As you know they come in different sizes (50, 55, 60, and 65mm I think), and I was wondering if the different sizes of flanges have anything to do with the size of the turbo outlet pipe? I've been told it has to do with how much boost i am running/plan to run, i.e. more boost=bigger size..but I wanted to make sure.

I'd measure the inlet for the BOV and match it. Take the BOV and the turbo outlet piping to a machine shop and have them make a flange for you and weld it on. That's what I had to do...that is...unless HKS makes a turbo outlet pipe with a built in flange for that BOV.

I plan on doing the fabrication myself, all I need is the flange. I'm making my own turbo outlet pipe and doing the welding myself. I just need to know what size flange I need.

Okay, the HKS online website says you have these options...

50mm steel
65mm steel
60mm aluminum

Now, you need to figure out what metal you're trying to weld this on.
Trying to weld steel on aluminum or vice versa is not recommended, so you're limited to what metal you're trying to weld on.

If you got aluminum pipes, you only have one option.

If you got steel pipes, you got either the 50mm or the 65mm steel flange.

I do NOT think the size is the diameter of the opening of the flange.
The size looks like the flange is curved for a particular OD pipe size.
So if you're running 2.0" pipes, it's easier to go with the 50mm steel.
65mm = little over 2.5".
So depending on your pipe size, this will dictate what steel flange you need to get.

You really do not have any options.

Yes, you are correct... the sizes refers to the diameter of the outlet piping that you are welding the flange to, not how much boost. In fact the SSQV and Racing TypeII uses the same flange. Both are attached to the flange using a special large "C-clip" and O"ring".
I doubt any machine shop would spend the time to make one, and HKS does offer a 150mm straight steel tube already with a 50mm flange. The 50mm and 65mm flanges are made of cast steel, and the 60mm is cast aluminum. Either one of them can be used on most any size outlet piping, provided they are of same material but you'll need to grind the flanges to fit.

ok, I'll go with a 50mm steel flange then. I planned on using steel instead of alluminum from the begining, guess I didn't notice the 60mm only came in alluminum, hehe. Thanks.
