I could smell the burned ecu before I even got the carpet up. I opened it up and it stank like Madeline Murray O'Hare on Judgment Day.:)

what would cause you to believe that your cpu is fried?

whereiscarmensandiego 05-02-08 09:15 PM

becasue i was told its a possibility because all my guages and idot lihgt cluster stoped working. and ther arnt any blown fuses or anything.

i think i sorta remember a burning smell although that could ahven been the circuit breaker tooo

CPU = body computer
ECU = engine computer

which one?

Either way the gauges are controlled by the Meter fuse not the ECU or CPU. If they don't work, they are either unplugged or the meter fuse is blown. Many of the idiot light functions are controlled by the room fuse.

Remember with ATC fuses they may not look blown when they actually are. The only way to be sure is to meter each one that is in question. That is why they put the tabs on the top of ATC fuses.

Most likely your ECU is fine..., if your lights and gauges stopped working check your VSS and unplug your whole cluster. check to see if anything on the cluster board was burnt or fried... if it was your ecu, it wouldnt work one bit..so check it out.

icemark got it dead on i changed the meter fuse and everything works now

but my meter fuse wasnt apperaing to be blown but replacing it solved my problems
