what should the temp gauge read?
Hey guys,
Holy cow!! What an awesome car. I payed the Nazi Scum at the DMV today ($139 to get the car registered $75 late fee, $24 tag, $10 title Fee, and $30 sales tax) That is the third most expensive part of fixing this car, $300 car, $350 Engine, and now $139 to get it registered. Grrr... I thoght we payed taxes to cover all these "fees" anyways. Oh well. So anyways, I have been driving the car all day without any problems, I think I logged close to 80 miles. I think I remember now why I used to find excuses to run to town, (so I could drive my MR2) but the 7 is so so much more. Wow..... New tires tommorow, I got the back end loose a couple of times today, and it is going to take some getting used to, I need a good wet empty parking lot.... Oh yeah, my question, My temp gauge never goes above 1/4. I put a brand new Mazda Thermostat in when I put the engine is, and I was a little worried, so I even popped the rad cap on the water outlet, and stuck a thermometer in, and it read 175 - 180. Should this be a quarter on the temp gauge? Thanks, Joey |
the 86-88's run at 1/4

Thanks
Awesome, one less thing to fix,
Thanks, Joey |
what year 7 do you have? thats fine if you have an s4. my 87 T2 never goes even to 1/4 on the temp gauge, thats exactly where i want it. if you have an S5 then i dunno, ive always heard the stock temp gauges in those things suck.

I have an '87 GXL... btw... While I have a thread with some traffic... What does FC and FD stand for? And what years are the different series?

i asked the same question awhile ago.....heres the info they gave me, this should satisfy your needs! :D Curtisy of Icemark.........
It has been covered many times, but... FC3S Or FC is the Mazda designation for the RX-7 Coupe built between 86 and 91. FC3C is the for the 'vert for 88-92. Most people just use FC as a referance to that second generation of Mazda RX-7 The third gen RX-7 is the FD, built between late 91 and just last month. As far as HP, differences and stuff there are several good sites: http://2ndgenrx7.freeservers.com/page1.html http://home.rmci.net/panther/tech.htm http://fc3s-pro.com/ and my personal FC info pages: http://home.earthlink.net/~icemark/FCseries4.htm |
I'd also browse through those links, they give some really good info for how to mods, etc. :bigthumb:

Thanks for the info,

I added a VDO temp gauge when my 1992 TII's gague was reading 60%. Turned out I was running 220degrees as the previous owner clogged the radiator with deposits from his tap water/hose.
I'm now running 185 degrees after a coolant flush. |
The '89-91 temp gauges will sit at the middle of the gauge for a BIG temp range - they don't move off the middle until you're overheating. The '86-88 temp gauges actually move in a linear relationship to the temp.

Stock gauges suck.....period. Boost, water, oil temp, etc. I really wouldn't trust them.
