what should i do? need more power. please help..
ok, so i have an 87 non-turbo rx7, i'm looking to begin some after market upgrades. it is completely stock other than the exhaust. looking to gain horsepower what is the most "bang-for-the-buck" thing i should add? intake? headers? what would you suggest? i'm looking into possibly purchasing a short shift kit maybe. this car is flawless interior and exterior. now i'm looking to add some "go" to the "show". thankkkssss

Forget "gaining horsepower" and concentrate instead of putting the power you have to best use.
Suspension, brakes and tires are the areas to start with. |
surree
i have brand new racing brakes, and mint condition toyo proxes all season low profiles. the suspension is fine for the car right now. looking to go faster dude. thanks for the input tho

clokker has a point, I'd strip off the "accessories".... smog pump, ac pump, power steering..... all this can be done for almost free, and it frees up power to the wheels. Intake would be good though..... Headers?!?! ummmm....... right......ok......we'll just look that one over..... get it ported!
|
What are "racing brakes"?
Also, what are you going to do with this car...DD, track beast, trailer queen, poontang magnet? |
what?
what was with the confusion about headers? i'm brand new to this rotary thing, but trying to learn more......ok, and it doesn't have power steering anyways...
|
brakes
greddy big brakes, and i'm lookin to race this car at the local raceway for fun.....want this car to be the best it can be.
|
I think you've bought the wrong car for what you're looking for, theres not much you can do besides a turbo swap.
|
so your saying....
that my car has no potential?
|
Have the ecu reprogrammed for more power(never done this one-do some research first). Intake will help. I've heard that headers are the most bang for the buck. Plus taking off extra weight will help as well.

You put $2k worth of brakes on a stock NA... and did it before upgrading the suspension? I think the first thing you need to modify is your priorities. What kind of racing happens at your local track? |
|
Hahaha, these noob threads are hilarious.

i have actually got an 89 n/a vert and ive currently had a rebuild and a few aftermarket done to it. racing beat headers, bonez high flow cat, borla cat back, bonez intake, koyo radiator, act heavy duty clutch, racing beat springs and sway bars, and tokico shocks. seems to run much smoother, the response it much better from origanally being stock, handling is phenomanal. i would try looking into basic bolt ons to get it breathing better and then a stand alone ecu to get where you wanna be (my next step). if looking for bigger than that gonna need a t2 swap or porting.

^ Too bad the original poster has no idea what you're talking about.

the brakes
got them from a friend who knows someone, so i got them for very cheap. $750 to be exact.
everykind of racing that i know of happens at the local track, every kind of drag, road course, and an oval. |
hey funny guy...
dear mr."nodryskin" nobody finds you amusing and your immaturity is embarrasing to all us forum members. please go back to your everday activities of stalking little children and wasting your life away passing out before lunch time everyday. thank you very much.:squintfin

So what kind do you want to pursue? The requirements for each type are totally different and once you get past the most basic level, almost exclusionary. Plus, once you decide you're building a track car (ANY type of track car) you've also pretty much eliminated it's life on the street, so I assume you have regular transportation covered. What's the budget? |
hmmmm
i'd like to keep it "street legal" as i drive it very often around town. i'm thinking I will do mostly 1/4 mile drag, maybe a little bit of road course action.
i haven't established a budget yet. but i currently have about $800 put away for upgrades on this car.. |
again.....
brakes and tires are takin care of. sounds like i will be messing with the suspension though?
|
TURBO IT! and/or get some port work done.
Fast corners are really fun, i love cutting an apex at like 90 in my RX-8, but it being down on power (especially being the tiptronic one) really just pisses me off and is why I'm looking at getting a turbo II. |
turbo
i heard that after you turbo, things start breaking..??? true???
