It's a casual agreement deal right now, but I'm expecting it to be less than $500.
I figured that I could have it back on the road for under $1500 after parts and shipping.

It's a gamble. I only have a handful of pictures. But it's through family that I learned of the car, so I am absolutely confident of the history.

you can pretty much figure on spending some time getting the compression of the rotors back up. The one i bought, my friend said he let it sit for 3 months one time and had to do the atf fluid trick for days to get his running again. Good luck+ nice find

one thing i havent seen mentioned is the brakes, i have NEVER had a car that sat for a while and didn't have brake issues. brake fluid itself is corrosive and brake lines are rubber... you do the math. I knew someone who "revived" and rx after sitting for 4-5 years and they overlooked the brakes, took it for a spin prematurely and ended up spinning off the road due to loss of braking on one wheel. (this was first time he drove it.)

if I replace the tires, can I use a tow dolly to pull it?

I know around here I can rent a small u-haul car trailer for $49 bucks a day. They said that a RX7 is on the list of cars it will transport safely. I would go that route any day over a tow dolly, that way it does not matter how bad the condition of the car is in, and you wont run into any unforeseen problems with your car until you get back home.

Man, 15 years is a long time to sit. If it wasn't properly stored in the first place, 15 new england winters probably wrecked havoc on that thing. I think $1500 for it back on the road is aiming a little low.

I bought an 87 MR2 with 32k. IT had been in a barn for 15+ years. The car was full of rat shit. It smelled awful. The rats had chewed some wiring all around the car. I had to take the car apart completely inc int. The motor was in great shape after I got it running. I had to take out the carpet and clean A LOT. It took about 3 months of work. BUT in the end you could have parked the car in a showroom. I bought if for my lil sis and she put 45k on it in a year:icon_no2: . To bad it was an auto.

Buy it expecting to have to do A LOT. That way you won't be disappointed!

I'd be renting it one way- Vermont to Florida.
The website didn't provide anything but a six day rental. $722+tax.
So about $120+ a day for the trailer, if it were offered by the day.

u need to call and talk to someone, my rental place would rent me a u-hall car trailer for $50 every 24hours, and you only need it for 24 hours.

They always seem to resent the one way rentals... but I'll give them a call. $50 a day would be worth driving for.

Have the car flat-bedded to your place. Then you can shop around for parts and take your time. Check everything. Some things will hold up better than expected, some will be worse.

IMHO - this may sound extreme to some - I would open up the engine, take out all the seals, inspect everything, put parts back, and put it back together, replacing anything that needed it. You'd spend some money on a gasket set, and probably not much more. Then again, I'd be doing all the labout myself. Just to make sure everything is free, rust free and lubed. Service the front bearings, check for play here and there, lube joints, etc. Service calipers, flush brake fluid, flush clutch, flush cooing system (put new OEM rad cap, thermostat, rad or heater hoses as necessary, spark plugs, you mentioned drain gas tank. I'm rambling a bit. Other items inspect/replace as necessary.
