What is this, and should it be capped etc? (pic, need help quick!)

Well, I'm still really new at this so this might be retarded.

I just pulled of my intercooler to look for my exhaust and coolant leaks. This is the first thing I found that looks like it's wrong. Car is an 88 TII.

What is it, does it need to be plugged, or should there be a hose running to it? The previous owner of the car did the TB mod, so maybe it should be that way anyway.

Any help would be appreciated!

Looks to me to be the coolant feed to the thermowax pellet thingy.

If he did the 'TB Mod' then I would've thought he would've removed the thermowax thing, but obviously he just removed the lines going to it.

I don't think it matters if its capped or not, if the other coolant hose isnt connected either that is.

Ps- I don't own a Turbo II, so don't take that as the truth just yet.... ;-)

There is supposed to be a water line running from there to the BAC valve. If he did the throttle body mod then it may not be necessary. Never done it so I'm not 100% on that. If there is no coolant squirting all over your engine then I wouldn't worry about it.

mine doesn't have that either I guess that could explain why my car takes about 5 to 10 minutes to start ideling :) I guess its the thottle body mod I don't know. where does it go to the bac valve?

MountainTurbo 02-12-04 11:15 PM

On mine, there's a line on the BAC that's been capped, so I imagine that's where it went before :: shrugs ::

Maybe I'll just cap it anyway to be safe:P

[i] where does it go to the bac valve? [/B]
There is a metal tube bolted to the BAC valve. The line in question goes from the aft end of the tube on the BAC to the fitting highlighted in the picture attached to the original post. I can't remember where the other end goes....

If there is no coolant running to a functional thermowax unit it will stay at ~1,500rpm for a while before dropping down to idle.

That is also a coolant line on the BAC...weird place for it as it has no function with the BAC.

OK, that explains why it idles high for a bit when I start it. I was confused, seeing as how the cold-start assist was removed and all:D
