What's an S-AFC???

reboot 10-26-02 02:53 AM

Apex'i Super-Air Flow Converter.

DC350 10-26-02 02:55 AM

it's a fuel controller, to help conrol bigger injectors

Makenzie71 10-26-02 03:19 AM

is this a gadget already on the car or is it an aftermarket doo-hickey?
I read earlier someone mention a "stock S-AFC".

yeah, you can add more fuel or lean out your injectors. it works on % and can only go so far up or down of what the stock computer is doing. these types of systems are known as piggybacks, because they go off what the stock computer is doing and then modify it's signal.

Everyone hold on a second there. An S-AFC DOES NOT CONTROL FUEL. This piggy back manipulates the electronic signal fom the Mass Air Flow sensor (on an Rx-7) to convince the stock computer that there is either more or less air being used by the motor. You lean out the stock computer by using the AFC to tell the computer it is getting less air. The computer see's a reduced signal there for delivers less fuel. Vice-versa to richen the mixture.

Working off of percentages. The AFC works off of percentages of the volatge present. IE you want to lean out your mixture by 20%. What the AFC is going to do is reduce the signal to the ECU to acheive that reduction.

so then how does it work when you put in bigger injectors? it tells the computer that you're running that much less air? and what about not needing a FCD with an S-AFC?

If I have advanced timing, is it normal that I hear some pinging (I think that it's detonation  ) at only -4% on the low throttle setting? I've gone as low as -14%.
