I love it how so many members on this forum get so easily upset when it seems that a new/less experienced member has not thoroughly researched the archive. You must consider though that all those little 3 letter bits can be difficult to understand and the forum is riddled with them! I know there is a small glossary of terms in there but it doesn't cover everything. I am sure it would be greatly appreciated by just about everyone if there was a continually updated glossery, because learning by context clues can be obnoxious. This isn't meant to be a conflagrant issue, it just seems that some people are a little harsh on the noobs. Plus THOSE people may want to consider that most noob questions
[i.e. WTF is RTV!:)] generally have simple answers and you could probably answer it instead of disciplining them, with the about same amount of effort! PHEW! I'm better now.

Now I am going to be a big hippocrit and use some acronyms! hehehe :D
Anyway, I am in the middle of the whole vac-rac removal, air pump, ACV, MOP etc. Apparently, to seal a lot of the things I will be putting on in place of these superfluous items, I need some mysterious spaceage wonder product called RTV! What is it!? ARGH!

It's called Sillicone RTV sealant, it's in a few different packages. (They're all cardboard blister packages) There are gold, grey, blue, and black. For most things you'll want to use either blue or grey. Just go to an automotive store, ask them for some gasket maker/sealer and they'll point you in the direction, and you'll see RTV on the tube in big letters.

That's funny... After all that... It was truly the name of the product... Ahem...

It's the foreign language acronym for Rubber (something) Vulcanized, or something like that. It's got a different chemical curing agent than the "100% silicone" stuff you can buy at Wal-mart, and it cures much stronger than the normal stuff. There are different "flavors" for different uses. Basically, in order of temp range & hardness (or "plasticity"), we have:
1) clear RTV (general household use)
2) white RTV (little stronger stuff, but still wouldn't use it on cars)
3) grey RTV (suitable for gaskets, but not in high-temp areas)
4) black RTV (suitable for gaskets, good to 400*F)
5) red RTV (great gasket material, not very flexible when cured, suitable for high temps, up to 500*F)

I've heard SonicRat talk about the blue stuff, but we don't use it on aircraft, so I know nothing about it)

I use black & red on the car (actually used the grey stuff in the RotaryAviation rebuild kit for the oil pan & front cover, and it seems to be doing OK). Red is also good for "helping" the reused exhaust gaskets, from the downpipe-to-cat connection on back...

blue is just a hair better than grey, but IIRC it's designed to resist degrading to oil & coolant. It explains all their benefits/difference on the front of the package. :)

Thanks you two! Also what kind of thread lock should I use. I am going Premix because I too snapped two of the MOP lines (DOH!) I understand I should use "threadlock" on the bolts that replace the oil injectors... Plus what do you guys think about jb welding the infamous coolant hose on top of the block that runs to the bottom of the throttle body?
One person suggested that I could do this, plus read somewhere about rerouting it...

You can just run it around the engine block to the nipple on the waterpump, or under the intake manifolds.

I've had no problems using the "old" OMP nozzle crush washers under the heads of the block off bolts, and they torque down pretty tightly, so thread locker? Hmmm...Couldn't hurt anything, I guess... :)

I enjoy my "automatic" fast idle system, so I keep all my coolant lines functional...

I do have a couple more questions... Should we move to a new thread? Hehehe.

Its about the orange and green solenoids. I know its been gone over a 1000 times. I just am having a lil bit of a hard time understanding this.
