what to pull off of a "sport" rx7?
 

Hey all the title says it. I recently came across a 87 sport model in the yard, yes it had the little foam aero mudguards and all on it even though 1 was missing on each side :( also had manual mirrors and a oem looking mazda bra lol I was just wondering what else is worth pulling on this car for my 86 luxury?

Is it true the actual hard lines were larger on these models??

So far i pulled the aluminum aero tray--some jackass ripped out the motor and bent the shit out of it:mad::mad::mad:, lsd, front, and rear bars. Plan on going back today for the bra,booster, and the rear calipers. Was really wondering if the hard lines would be worth it to grab?

I heard some possible misinformation that if you upgrade the calipers and dont upgrade the master/booster/hard lines you actually loose braking.

That ain't "possible misinformation", it's the real deal..."actual misinformation".

The sport spoiler and manual belts would be worth harvesting.

your 86 if it's a GXL should be 5 lug, and have the same brakes. soft lines from fender to caliper are different lengths.

Grab the aero, for sure. Too bad some is missing. It is wise to also get the tow hooks for the front of the car. The aero mounts to them, it's virtually useless w/o those mounts. Even if you only got 1 piece of aero but both tow hooks haha. Front lip between the 2 aero pieces too if it's there.

My 86 was a lx? luxury model..... :blush:automatic, 4 lug, back seat with factory aluminum hood:scratch:

Not positive but pretty sure both my 7's came with manual belts.

I would grab the full spindles to do the 5 lug swap but i dont have the cash and really am attached to my rims....

The front drivers side aero is there but the passenger side..... some d-bag ripped the fender off of, threw it behind the car and the trim piece and half the front spoiler is nowhere to be found or else it would of been the first thing i grabbed. I just cant understand how anyone who actually knows piss about these cars WOULDNT be able to spot what they were working on??

Might as well pull the lsd off the gsl-se thats sitting out there as well to see it go to a decent home. Better than it getting crushed right?

Im gonna grab those 2 aero peices though, front drivers side and rear pass side and take off some more of the splash/fender guards,clips, bolts and whatever else i can salvage oem wise for my grey 86. Ill also take a look at the tow hooks for the front.

Last time i was there i had less than a hour to drop the diff and pull the sways out. So i didnt go over it as well as i had wanted to.

A question i already know the answer to but im going to ask anyway. did the sports have a differently tuned ecu from factory or was it only a aero-suspension package? maybe ill find a rtek sticker on the ecu:lol:

Same ecu as all s4 non-turbos.

Hey im bringing this back because i was curious about something and the car is still up there.... I noticed it has the power rack in it and both my 7's are manual rack. I was curious if anyone knew what ratio rack would of been in the sport??? 20 17 15 14?? just wondering because i was thinking about tracking my blue car and from personal experience which rack feels better?

Think it, along w/ all S4 power racks, are the 15 one.

The manual rack (20.3:1) is better for racing, but the power rack (15.2:1) is better for parallel parking. The power assist is nearly zero once the car hits 110mph.

Why did you pull the differential? The Sport DOES NOT have a limited slip. It has an open differential, like most other NAs. The ONLY NAs that came with an LSD are the S4 GXL, S4 GTU, and S5 GTUs (viscous). I've owned two different Sports, neither had an LSD and neither has any Sport I've seen in the junk yard.

The only other thing not mentioned that is worth taking would be the suspension. The Sport (even the 86) had the TII suspension, meaning shocks/struts, springs and sways. Aero, suspension, and all the light weight manual gear inside are all thats worth taking. All steering is that same for S4s. It only changes if it's powered or not. Also, its master/booster are the same for all. Brakes are the same compared to the GXL/TII/Vert.

The shocks/springs and front calipers were already pulled off it, everything else i pulled off for spares/conversion. This one did have a lsd swapped into the back of it with fresh grease in the bearing cups. I spun the diff before i pulled it to make sure. Someone who had it was doing some work before it got hit. Either way for the 36 bucks it cost, even if it wasnt a lsd it would still be worth it just to have a spare to weld up.

Only reason i asked about the booster was there were 2 different models listed on rockauto 1 for normal and 1 for hard suspension.
