What mileage did you get out of your original engine? (TII)

Just wondering what your typical mileage is/was on the original engine

Felix Wankel 01-09-02 06:57 PM

Had one that got totalled at 155k, and my present one has 148k on it and good compression.

Jarrett 01-09-02 07:11 PM

TII

I am not sure of all the acronyms going around TII, FD, FC...Etc. But the original motor on my 87 RX NA went 206,000

RX7FC3S 01-09-02 07:16 PM

I had right around 119k miles on my 89' TII before the seals blew and it started burning coolant.

IAN 01-09-02 07:22 PM

Mine went at about 137,000km.

Of course it was due to boosting to 12psi. Dam downpipe

sig. original motor, turbo, and tranny. Clutch newer than original.

Doesnt smoke, passed emissions as the cleanest car in my family with no tricks in the tank other than sonoco 94 octane (1997 Subaru Impreza, 2000 Celica GT)

It didn't get far beyond that 112mi mark before it was so low on compression that I quit driving it.

Syralid 01-10-02 07:52 PM

haha I can't even compare to all of you
but on my 86 gxl I have 93,000 km and well it's still going very much strong :)

I wonder where I can find specs on the 86 GXL engine...

Flyby116 01-10-02 09:02 PM

Well I have just hit...29,000 miles last night hehe
And great compression :)

stiltner@harborside.com 01-10-02 09:48 PM

RE, How many miles???

87 N/T, 250,000, Never had the ATF treatment, just oil changed,20/50 Castrol every 3,000, quality filter, kept tuned, It`s never missed a beat. I`ve never done a compression test, but it starts easy every time and runs great!!! Pedal down!!!!!

we have the same car exactly, sweet, but mine has more miles. did you know that form the 91/92 year models, there were only 6000 units sold in the states. thats 6000 between all 3 flavors, na / tII / vert.

Grimlock 01-11-02 09:01 AM

108,000 and still booooooosting...

ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssswhooooooooshhhhh!!! !!!!

my 88 TII has 108,000 miles and she is still boosting very strong and idles perfect. i think the key is oil/spark plug changes on time, coolant flush at least once a year and redline her every now and then to break up any carbon build up.

im hopin i can get at least 160,000 and by the looks of this thread im gonna get there.

gotta love these cars!!!!!!

sublimeracing 01-11-02 01:51 PM

I bought my 88 T2 w/ 118,xxx on it, ran it to 125,xxx then the engine caught on fire:( I'm sure I could have gone more if I'd replaced the stupid faulty PD. oh well...

Forseti 01-11-02 02:05 PM

Good to hear...

Hey all,

I have a 89 TII with 63k miles on it. Still running. It's good to know that other 89TIIs are going over 100k miles on the original engine. I don't plan on running mine about 10-11 pounds of boost anyways.

Cheers,

/F.

My first was a new 90 GTU. Original engine went 230,000 before I had to replace with a re-built. Exceptional car! I put out of its misery at 325,000. All that time... one clutch, one drive shaft, 4th gear replaced in tranny, several brake pads, left muffler, LCD,s on Clarion radio. Absolutely everything else was original and no mods. Oil changed every 1,500 mi., tranny/dif changed at 15K, plugs/tune every 12K. No other maintenance. Michigan car junked due to major initially hidden rust from road salt.

Recently replaced with a '90 GXL with 93K and runs like a dream. Will do same maintenance but now add Prolong every other oil change.

Greys 10th 01-12-02 02:31 PM

My 89 GXL had 160,000 miles on it when i trade it in. It ran pretty decent for the mileage, I.E. i dont think it needed a rebuild, YET. Still kicking myself in the ass for getting rid of it, though
My 88 10th Anniversary has 120,800 miles on it. Runs descent but it is probally in need of a rebuild.
