what to look for in a turbo 2

Hello,
New to the forum here, thought I'd a get few good lessons.
I currently own a '87 GXL, unfortunatly the motor is blown. I am thinking about getting a Turbo 2 but don't know what to look out for. I don't want a lemon.

How can I tell if the turbo/engine is good or not? Do they make any certain noises when they are about to die? What's a good way to test it before buying? Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

one of the things you could do is take the car to a Mazda dealer or rotary shop to have the compression tested to be sure its good.

also, check to see if it has a cold start problem, or a hot start problem (leaky injectors causing flooding or low compression causing the starting problem)

for a stock car boost should build around 2500 and then pull hard up to 6500 or so. make sure you're not blowing any unwanted smoke from a bad turbo or oil seals. make sure there are no leaks in the engine bay after a hard run.

check for a solid idle, and if its an 89-91 car you can check the codes by grounding the initial set connector and reading any error codes that could cause problems.

there's more things to look for...maybe someone else would chime in or try a search...you may not find exactly what you need, but there's plenty of info on T2's in general to keep you busy. good luck man, hope you find a nice one :D

The car I'll be looking at is a 87 tII. I'll do a search for a shop for the compression test. The car I'm looking at sounds good on paper, so...

Thanks for lookin' out... =)
