what kind of tape or wrapping would be the best to use for the main harness??
 

i have the engine out of the car. the harness protective wrapping or tape had started to melt from the heat of the engine/turbo. I was gonna strip it down and re-wrap it in electrical tape. but im looking for a better solution. anyone have something better that would hold up to the heat better than electrical tape.?? i just dont wanna have to clean up a bunch of melted adhesive.

If you can find it, they make a silicone rubber tape that should do the trick. About 3/4" wide, different colors. We use it on the aircraft, but other than a catalogue, I have never seen it in retail stores. Wouldn't hurt to check the auto parts store, I guess, or maybe a good hardware store. Once it's wrapped, it ain't coming off...

yeah that sounds like some good stuff. something like what they stock harness comes in would be ok. i mean the adhesive looks fresh like just recently melted . so im thinking if the stuff can last almost 20 years then its a decent investment

I read somewhere online that using electrical tape will cause corrosion problems within the harness. Something about the adhesive and the heat of the compartment breaking down the insulation in the wiring. Might check into this before tape wrapping the harness.

I've torn my harness apart completely and it's a mess in there, oil, glue, you name it. I'm planning on using heat-shrink on mine to hopefully seal it & keep that crap out of there.

Put a plastic loom around your harness and then wrap it with electrical tape. I did that and it works fine.

It's called "split loom tubing". Electrical tape will turn into a sticky mess after some time under the hood.
