what happens when low impedence injectors are put in wrong car?

I just found out my friend put my old 550cc injectors in his NA's primaries(he bought them and didn't ask me where to put them or if he needed them yet). My car has low impedence injectors and his high(88GXL). How come his car runs and everything? He didn't know about the resistors.

i should find out this too, because when the engine was rebuilt, they put on high imp injector on my engine, while the rest is low impedence..

works..interesting..

They will fry and stop working soon. Thats about it.

It's what happened when I put lows on my 88.

HAILERS 12-16-02 05:42 AM

I don't know for sure, but I was under the impression that the transistors in the ECU dedicated to the injectors, would be destroyed after a short period of time. As in pulling too much amperage????? Never done it myself and don't care to find out. Cost too much.

Maybe he can leave them in there for a while so we can find out for sure? Although the post just above this gives us an indication.

ohms law, ECU will get hot from passing to much juice and burn the injector drivers up. Think of it like dropping the ohm load on a car stereo amp, the lower you drop the ohm load (resistance) the more wattage it outputs, but get it to low and it will overheat.

how do ur know that's ur injectors are fried up?
i'm at a point where i really don't know what type of injectors i suppose to use, no one would show me a pic of a resistor pack.

i have a 87t2 everyone tells me i got suppose to have lows, but mazdatrix vin check showed i suppose to have highs..

o can anyone help me by taking a pic of ur low impedence injector harness or high impedence injector harness

or a pic of resisitor pack

thanks

Rotorific 12-17-02 12:36 AM

Thats because midway through the 87 model year they switched to the high impedance injectors. The resisitor pack is a silver box that is behind the passenger headlight. -Gabe

can u show me a pic so i can be extra sure??

Mid 87?? now im all confused i thought i had low impedance injectors i have a 88 vert that im doing a S/C conversion and i done passed up all kinds of high impedance injectors. So exactly what do i need high or low????Also what color should the caps be?

Ryde _Or_Die 12-17-02 08:39 AM

You need high. Look behind the p/s headlight if you want to be sure. If theres a silver rectangular box about 1.5"x1.5"x4" then you have low impedence injectors.

Samps 12-17-02 08:50 AM

I have a 91 vert with the "little silver box." Don't all series 5 cars run high impedance injectors? If so then the gray box theory is false.

Ryde _Or_Die 12-17-02 08:52 AM

Well my 87 has the box. My friends 88 doesn't along with another friends 88 that doesn't. And another friend has an early 87 like me and has it. Maybe we are talkin about 2 different boxes. Because I have another thing up there too. Does yours have sort of ridges on top?

Samps 12-17-02 09:05 AM

No ridges from what I remember. Mine has sort of a little resistor under it. It's more of a silver shield than a box; since it has only three sides. But it is mounted directly behind the passenger headlight and is similar in size to what you described. I always thought it had something to do with the headlights, hehehe.

RESISTOR PACK......

Ah, come on. Lets see how long it lasts without the resistor pack! You guys are no fun at all.

Rotorific 12-17-02 10:03 AM

HAHA dude thats the spirit.

Samps 12-17-02 10:52 AM

Somebody start a poll! :)

600HP CLUB 12-17-02 12:11 PM

FINALLY A PIC,
i awlays though that was the FUEL PUMP resisitor?

o well, i have it i guess im running all low impedence..

-mike, i guess im going to look for some gsl-se injectors..

Turtle's TII 12-17-02 02:08 PM

Burns up the injector drivers in the ECM.

88 SE 12-17-02 03:37 PM

I'll give it 5k miles :)

My injectors fried in my car before the ECU did it seems, since I replaced the injectors and the car seems to run much much better now.

Mine have been running for over 10,000 miles because when the owner before me rebuilt the motor, he put highs in my 87. I have them in the secondaries now, but I changing when I get 200 dollars.

88 SE 12-17-02 04:51 PM

200?

You can get them for $25 each (rebuilt with warranty) from nopionline.com

Have a look :)

riptyde 12-17-02 05:04 PM

$200 brand new and they're the 550s.
