what exactly is uniporting?

this guy i know has an 86 i belive and he said it has been uniported so it doesnt redline till like 14grand or so.. whats the deal with this?

mazdaspeed7 11-18-02 12:30 AM

hes full of shit

Node 11-18-02 12:32 AM

uhm, do you canadians have different redlines than us. Like instead of USD you have canadians dollars that look like twice the money but arent.
Twice the redline?
ok yeah

StinkyFatPig 11-18-02 12:34 AM

hey i dont know.. Im new to rots.. maybe itwasnt 14, but it was 12 or something around that.. I was half cut so i dont remember.. but it blew me away..

so is there no such thing as uniporting?

mazdaspeed7 11-18-02 12:53 AM

hes still full of shit. You cant rev a 13B past 10.5K without spend WAY too much money.

there is no such thing as uniporting either.

88 SE 11-18-02 01:46 AM

Maybe he means blending the seconday and auxillary ports together?

TonyTurboII 11-18-02 05:19 AM

He can blend all he wants, hes not seeing 14grand. Even like Adam said, your into bucu bucks going past 10-11.

dr0x 11-18-02 07:30 AM

Why would you want to rev that high anyways? High revs dont always equal high power.

sbertolone 11-18-02 08:29 AM

if your reving that high you probably have a peripheral port that keeps building power up that high

Do you not understand the meaning of horsepower? Make the same torque at higher RPM = more power.

100 ft-lb @ 5252 RPM = 100hp
100 ft-lb @ 10504 = 200hp
100 ft-lb @ 15756 = 300hp

But the trick is making torque up that high. PP's generally have the power peak around 9000 rpm, but the torque doesnt fall off after that, so it still makes good power above it. It makes sense to wait to shift, b/c you are still making more torque at the wheels thanks to being in a lower gear.

when revving high the ve starts to drop off because there is less time for the intake port to be open, therefore less time for air to travel into the chamber

Its a little more complicated. The short duration of the port results in high intake velocities, and when they get too high, the airflow stalls. Thats why after a certain rpm the car feels like its on its face.

Piranha 11-19-02 02:53 PM

I know Honda is quoted as saying that that there is double the forces on an engine (talking about s2000 engine at 9K than 8K. :o I think its double, or 10X. Don't quote me on that. :)

sbertolone 11-20-02 02:50 PM

the port shape has more to do with when air stalls, its the angle at which it actually departs from the surface of the port and goes into the chamber. if at high rpm it stalls how do you think f1 engines spin to 20k its all about shape

The problem with that is actually making power that high. When power starts falling off at say 12k why rev to 14? Its pointless. I have yet to see proof of a 13b block making power past ~11000rpm

Of course. But those motors are MADE to spin that high. High compression, and heads that flow unbelievable amounts of air needed to keep the VE high at those RPM's.

Did you know that a monster bridge port 12A can spin 14K rpm? It has ports big enough to keep the air from stallign at those rpm's.

haha, I can just see myself doing a 12A swap ;)
