i saw these tail lights and wanted to know what kind they are and if anyone knows anything about them.

robtechfabrications 02-12-06 09:57 PM

they're hot and i was wondering the same thing

robtechfabrications 02-12-06 09:58 PM

i dont think anyone makes em though...it looks like its a matter of taking apart a set of s5 and modifying them

'87 turbo II 02-12-06 09:59 PM

they're beautiful, I hope we see them on the market soon, I like them way more than S5 tails and they look brighter too. LEDs man.

robtechfabrications 02-12-06 10:01 PM

i almost hate to say this...cuz it's goin against my normal train of thought...but im starting to really like those re style wings on the FC...

88rxn/a 02-12-06 10:01 PM

they are s5's... there prob. taken apart and led's put in them.

playdeadva 02-12-06 10:01 PM

its awesome. it looks like a cross between the s5 and 3rd gen. maybe?
some one HAS to make these.

'87 turbo II 02-12-06 10:06 PM

well if soemone does make them, one way o find out is to try and visit every website decal on that car.............. yeah ..... right.

reatrdedspleen 02-12-06 10:33 PM

Yeah somebody already posted this car (but with a better picture of the tails) i think the thread name was "I want these!" or somethen like that.

They're hot! i want them badly. and I wish I trusted myself to pull apart my S5 tails and try and make those.

If somebody could figure out exactly how to make those. And started making them...id imagine he would have a lot of rx7 buyers on his hands. Id imagine they would go for a lot too.

snowball 02-12-06 10:43 PM

repost but good looking lights, id hit it.

playdeadva 02-12-06 10:51 PM

yeah sorry about the repost. didnt really know what to search for. i just saw them and was amazed. anybody have a better pic?

i do like the tails...i was actually looking at some pics of this car i found earlier today. im not a fan of the led 3rd gen tails tho

Alex Rodriguez 02-12-06 10:54 PM

this are leds that you have to cut your s5 lights in order to make them work and the kit cost 250.00 they sell here and they come with instructions

AC LINKS 02-12-06 11:02 PM

I gotta check them out....

wait wait wait.... WHERE is the kit? cause if its 250....and i have to do the install....im 90% interested... You have a link? does the link have pictures on the page. i want EXACTLY the tails in the picture :)

Lucky13 02-13-06 03:30 AM

^ what he said

Carzy Driver 02-13-06 03:40 AM

those are nice led tails, ugly ass color scheme though, rims, spoiler, not my style

classicauto 02-13-06 11:09 AM

I just bought led bulbs and slpped them in...
granted they are nowhere near the styling of the circle of single LED's from the pic...

BUT they do have the nice LED effect, the bright crisp light and the quick "flash" when they turn on

playdeadva 02-13-06 02:01 PM

how did you slip them in? and how did you wire the bulbs?

SirCygnus 02-13-06 02:11 PM

i think they are stock replacements that are retor fitted to fit with the stock bulbs i think. im not sure. but going a led conversion isnt going to be that hard imho.

classicauto 02-13-06 02:31 PM

the blubs are simply OE style replacements, you put them in just like normal bulbs but they are LED's as opposed to the typical halogen

SayNoToPistons 02-13-06 03:21 PM

they look great. but IMO theyll look even better with smaller LEDs placed closer together with tinited lense for a less ricer look. but still awesome the way it is.

20Bforme 02-13-06 03:27 PM

wow... those really do look nice

playdeadva 02-13-06 05:32 PM

yeah i would really like to figure how to do that. ive never seen anyone convert tail lights on s5s like that. maybe coz theyre awesome the way they are haha. except those led lights would be even better.

jhammons01 02-14-06 02:24 PM

Go To Radio Shack and buy some LEDs and Hot glue them into the back of the Cone shaped plastic that holds your current bulb.

Items needed. 6 12v LEDs from Radio Shack. You can buy them in Red, Green, Amber, White and Blue. A small Drill bit just the size of the LED and your moms Hot Glue gun. Mild electricle knowledge and a Soldering Iron.

Make a Template for Drilling a pattern in the back of the plastic. Make suer that whatever pattern you choose the Drill holes are spaced properly or else it will be rice No matter what after that. Drill the holes and then mount the LEDs with the Hot Glue gun be careful because LEDs are hot when burning so you may have to mount them and glue from behind but know that nobody or nothing is going to touch the LED so you really don't have to worry too much about the sturdiness.

Once the LEDs are mounted then Hook them to the power source. Your current bulb has a Positive and a Negative wire.

Some EE is going to have to tell you exact power max/mins and if you need a Capacitor in between or whatelse. Seems to me it's just straight 12v 10-25amp

How hard could it be.

This should take about 20 minutes, my Webelos Scouts made LED electrical circuits just three months ago......call if you need help I'll send a Webelo over there.

PoderRotativo 02-14-06 05:01 PM

OMG!! That car screems SEX!!

'87 turbo II 02-14-06 05:13 PM

they don't look as good in the "better pic" but I think the angle made the first pic appear to have clear lenses with black underneath, if you smoked the whole lense (besides the area covering the ring, and had like 2 red rings whith and a gold circle when off, and the same but lit when on) it would look alot better, like a mix between S5 and gen 3 and then the LEDs to break the whole 7 chain.

NeCr0mStR 02-14-06 05:17 PM

I already know how to make them for the most part I just need some donor/scrap s5 tails to do it up but I can do it easily enough I think.

staticguitar313 02-14-06 05:38 PM

they kinda look like christmas lights to me, if somone could perfect them i'd be down, more LED's closer together, and how the hell to they fo brighter when the brake is applied? LED's only have one brightness setting unlike filament bulbs.

iceblue 02-14-06 05:46 PM

This is old anyhow. View Eriksseven's moded tails to figure out how to do this. I just orderd a LED set off ebay. Going to finaly do it. I sold my S5 tails a while ago to do this too so got to find a new pair now.

Flobb 02-14-06 08:56 PM

$250 for the kit plus $250 for a set of s5 tails equals i like the s4 tails better

iceblue 02-14-06 08:59 PM

250 for a kit + 250 for the tails I can buy a FC for that much! Wait a minute thats what my last FC cost!

ooh you could self LED the S4s.......... it'd also be cool to tdo that and slightly smoke the S4 tails, then LED them.

playdeadva 02-14-06 09:41 PM

yeah i think im taking a trip to the junkyard or something to find some old s5 taillights. but im almost 100% sure that someone had already found them hahaha. i dont think theres to many s5 tail lights just laying around.

lol... Man I'm sorry- I guess I'll be the only one to disagree with everyone. No offense, but I don't find it that appealing. You guys remember that T-Mobile commercial with the AE86? That's the first thing I thought of when I saw this car.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about:
Edit: Sorry... I just had to mention the guage on the hood. It gets me every time. lol

SuperRotorMan 02-14-06 11:38 PM

eh... dont like them..

jhammons01 02-14-06 11:59 PM

I never said I liked them. I just told you how you could make them yourself. the JDradioshackM doesn't seem to sit right.......

RotaryEvolution 02-18-06 10:50 PM

i rarely see people take into consideration you need 2 types of LED for the modifications, if you install all low draw LEDs or high draw LEDs you will confuse people behind you as to whether you are braking or having your runnings lights on, if you are rearended you will be at fault, keep that in mind when modding them.

imo, i don't like them much, looks like the car belongs in a casino.

fc3s91 02-19-06 10:57 AM

replacement bulb :http://www.superbrightleds.com/

initforthefun20 02-19-06 12:04 PM
