What to do now- wrecked FC...

Well, upon learning not to let people borrow my car that are stupid! My brother was " showing" some people my car/ motor and forgot to shut the hood pins securely, only to proceed with picking up his girlfriend and showing off going about 120mph. So.... the hood comes up, shatters the windshield, and breaks off and collapses the roof, the corners of the hood folded out and peirced both fenders.

Fortunately they are both alright, unfortunately- I think My FC is beyond repair. It is a 1990 GTU^converted to T2, full conversion. ( It was purchased with the stock T2 motor swapped already, I just finished the drivetrain, and mods.)
I have found another black/black incredible condition S5 ( same color, model, and 3k less miles- 103K) basically the same car, but a blown motor. $600

My question is will I have to actually " reswap" the car, or can I just pull and swap my whole wiring harness? I figure, swap the exhaust/coilovers/ recaros/ tranny/rear end/ DS/motor/ gauges/ ecu/FMIC/etc.... it should all simply swap over since its going from one GTU-to another.

Thanks you guys...

Well, you won't have to reswap or anything, your brother might... he needs a solid kick in the balls.

From the sound of it it's mostly body damage, how's the roof? Did it get pushed/crunched at all? Other than that I suspect that with a new windshield, hood, and fenders you would be good to go.

the whole roof is collapsed, and the sunroof got knocked through and slammed the rails through too.

it really looks like it was rolled

RotaryEvolution 06-11-07 05:36 PM

in that case it's probably more work than it's worth, find a good rolling shell and swap what you need and make sure your brother pays for everything.

I said in the original post- I found the exact same year, color, and nearly same mileage 1990 S5 GTU, for $600, with a blown motor. The problem is how do I swap my turbo motor in, I have swapped GTU already, but I didnt preform the swap. what do I do for this? b/c its already swapped- the wiring harness isnt going to be the same. Or will it be the same as a turbo swap- my harness is already swapped.

The car in my opinion isnt worth fixing.

Find out which route will be more expensive... and make your brother pay for ALL of it

ericgrau 06-11-07 08:09 PM

This seems like a no brainer but whatever you do, make sure your brother pays for the whole thing plus labor. Strongly consider insurance, since he probably can't afford it without insurance. I'm just amazed at how often people do stupid stuff over and over again simply b/c they get away with it. I'm more amazed when people let them as if that were just the way to do things. If you don't collect the costs from your brother not only are you hurting yourself, you aren't helping your bro either. At the very least collecting the costs will help keep him from doing such things again, even if he holds back reluctantly.

Sorry I can't help with the wiring issues. I know you're frustrated by now with everyone talking about things without answering your question.

your best bet is find another fc and take ur parts to do another t2 conversion

jonesfromindia 06-11-07 10:37 PM

Pics or ban.

new car, swap it. it will be fun!

TehMonkay 06-11-07 11:46 PM

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say, but you'll have to take everything out and put it back in the other car.

Might as well pick the car for as many parts as possible if it's totalled as well.

SpeedOfLife 06-11-07 11:48 PM

You could, of course, turn it into a convertible!

exiletalon 06-12-07 02:16 AM

I have a new shell already! just asking if I need to resplice the harness, or if it would be easier to simply swap the whole wiring harness. They are the exact same car! year/ everything.....

He is paying for all expenses, but that doesnt make up for the labor, and the frustration. I am hoping to get a set of Black pole position Recaro's with red stitching that was going into his GSR. I better get those, I really want them.

exiletalon 06-12-07 02:17 AM

I was considering going Targa- Jk

certifiednut 06-12-07 03:52 AM

yes just swap the whole wiring, computer, engine, drivetrain as one if yours are all known good then it will save you headaches later, and that way its just plug and play

SpeedOfLife 06-12-07 09:45 AM

^^^ I agree, go with what you know should be working, it will hopefully help you troubleshoot if it doesn't fire right up and run right once installed.

Also, never let anyone else ever drive your '7 unless they've paid you in cash over the whole amount you'd want if you sold it today, and even then I dunno...
