What do I need to do to remove those cat convertors?
 

I want the Rex to shoot flames. As long as I have it I might as well have fun!

Anyways, I have access to a full garage and any too imaginable. I also possess more than enough mechanical ability. What do I do? Any info/links are appreciated. I dont have to pass emissions with this car, I have a workaround.

It seems really simple.

What year is your car? If it's 86-88 then u need something to provide backpressure to open your auxillary ports on your car, which you will lose after removing your cat. I am removing my air pump too but it is recommended to get a dual alternator pulley so your belts doesn't slip.
Haven't done the mod yet for the air pump but people seem to do it without a problem. BAsic questions like that can be searched in the search questions and tons of threads appear on these basic topics.

Man you guys are quick, you beat me to it!!!

I know that`s not what you want to hear, so here is a rundown of what I did, may not work in your stae though?

Like we said, take them off, measure from the engine to the flange where the last cat was bolted on,{add a foot for the bend}, go to the closest muffler shop and have them bend a 45 degree bend about 6" from one end from 2 1/2" Pipe, take it home and cut the flang off the first cat and the end of the back cat, leaving about 1/2" sticking out, position your pipe under the car, {might need a buddy to help you}, mark the pipe where you want to cut it, take it out and cut it, bolt the flanges on and posision the pipe over the pieces that you left on the flanges, tack weld the flanges to the pipe on both ends, remove the assembly and wire weld around, take a die grinder and grind the inside of both ends untill they are free from restriction, put it back on and you are done!!! It`s gonna be a lot louder though!!

either unbolt them where they can be unbolted, but there is a gasket there, and if you just unbolt them, then you might run the risk of ruining the seal provided by the gasket, and that can cause a stinky exhaust leak...a small one... What we did, was took some cutters, cut them out, and then welded a pipe in their place. Either way it works. Just have fun with it! But if you're wanting to shoot flames, then you might ought to remove your stock mufflers. Replace them with echo tips or some other good looking straight through pipes. That's what's on mine, and it sounds good and it shoots fire pretty good. Mine is, however an 89, where my 6th ports are run by the air pump, and not by exhaust backpressure. If yours is an 86-88, then you run the risk of having non-working 6th ports.

You'll need to wire your 6-Ports open then, otherwise they won't open and you'll lose top end power.

There is a club that is pretty well centered around the Twin Cities. :)

I think we have some tentative plans for this year's Midwest Rotary Rendezvous that will make last year's event look like a dry run. ;) Nothing like SevenStock yet of course, but definately better, and hopefully bigger.

We gave up on the Gingerman theory, since their GM didn't feel like following through on getting us any info, or being the least bit helpful. Soooo, looks like we're back at Road America, unless someone comes along in a hurry to plot out another venue we can all agree on being relatively centered in the region....
