What do I do?
 

OK, awkward question. I was removing my starter motor today and was taking out those large bolts that connect it to the flywheel, and the top of the bolt broke off, so the rest of the bolt is stuck in place, but the starter motor and everything is off. Is there a tool that will extract the rest of the bolt?

How much is in there? Even if the very top is still exposed it's still going to be hard because of the length of these bolts.

You may be able to get a small drill bit on a dril and make a small hole on top of the remainder of the bolt and use a screwdriver to get it the rest of the way out (Don't use drill bits made for woodworking >_< ).

Two or three small holes side by side forming a line would allow a flathead to unscrew the remainder of the bolt.

Or you can use a dremel to make a hex partern to get a socket on it because a screwdriver may not have enough torque to get the bolt out because of how long they are.

If the top of the remainder of the bolt is severely rusted, you may end up drilling the entire thing out. Considering how long these bolts are ... that won't be fun or easy.

Use penetrating lube.

I'd wait for more poeple to respond before trying anything.

go to sears. they sell extracting tools. basically a carbide bit that is reverse threaded so it digs into the bolt when you screw it out. just ask one of the people there. I'd say that's your best bet

Wow the Sears near me is awful then. I went there before this was posted hoping that they would have something. They told me to go to an automotive store.
