what to do with the hood scoop?
I have been stuffing foam around the radiator to improve cooling and I was wondering what people think about the functionality of the hood scoop after you go FMIC? Do you think it improves engine cooling? Or could it causes turbulence in the engine bay slowing the air flow through the rad?
Should I leave it alone or plug it with some foam |
I know I've seen a reverse vent insert somewhere. I seem to remember a thread about it somewhere, maybe try searching.
Edit: this looks like what your looking for: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...se+vent+insert |
Good thread but no definite conclusion
I am not really looking for a reverse vented scoop. I like the style of the stocker. |
The scoop reduces flow through the radiator. So you can keep the scoop and deal with a little less efficient cooling, get a reverse scoop(which you don't want to do), or just get rid of the scoop( but then the car doesn't look as good).

i was think of pluging the scoop with some foam

To scoop or not to scoop, that is the question
Or, just swap, sell n buy a NA Aluminum (about 3 lbs lighter) hood and go sleeper. Best choice, IMHP. Plugging the scoop will just make it look like someone stuffed a sock in it. Not exactly stylish.

a true reverse vented hood would be the best route to go, sure the sleeper look is nice if you want to keep ricers off your back. problem with front mounts is they generate alot of heat in the engine bay, heat needs to go somewhere and with an n/a hood it just gets trapped in there.
