What Clutches do you guys use?

Hi im about to buy an 88 FC turbo 2 and everything is fine and dandy except his clutch is starting to slip. I looked up the one he has and the reviews are kinda shitty so im going to go a different route. I dont know exactly how much power he is making but its an s4 with a stage 3 streetport from atkins and full boltons, he has a lightweight flywheel and shit. His Centerforce clutch is going out. I heard exedy was good but all i found was some triple disk sick nasty banging your mom clutch that is over the top.

Ive searched the forums but not really found what im looking for so any help would be awesome, thanks alot.

ACT clutch will be good.

Last owner claimed he just put in a Rotary Performance clutch. It was annoyingly jerky and failed 20k miles after I got the car. Switched to OEM and it's no longer jerky. Don't know anything about other clutches, or if the previous owner had really just put in the RP clutch or if my shifting style was related, but it seems kinda early regardless. Among the car's records the P.O. gave me I did find the receipt for both the clutch (it really is RP) and the mechanic that installed it.

have purchased and used the exedy stage 2, on three occasions, twice for a mild build T2. I love its performance for it being still a streetable clutch.

Iv had one good experience with ACT, and one bad (mainly with the pressure plate).

centerforce stage 2 for both my t2 and na

RXnos1200 04-13-10 12:36 AM

been reading good and bad reviews about all the clutches. Seems like it depends which stage you go for. too many mixed reviews. it's confusing.........so far I think the ACT has the least complaints. F1 seems to be the worst and their warranty is a joke......

Act hdss

xxifearixx 04-13-10 01:15 AM

im never buying from f1 again....:wallbash:

RXnos1200 04-13-10 01:35 AM

agreed :puke: F1

I have a Tilton Twin Disc in one and an ACT HDSS in the other.

If you're not racing, then get an ACT HDSS. It's very grippy and you can still slip it.
With the twin disc, there is no slipping. I put it in my weekend car, and I'll admit, it's much more intense than I expected.

ACT Z65-HDG6
6 puck sprung with HD pressure plate.
Best clutch combo Ive ever driven on any car, except my friends twin OS Ginken in his sr20.

RXnos1200 04-13-10 10:43 PM

does the 6 puck make a metallic sound when grabbing the flywheel/ pressure plate? I've heard some crazy screeches with 6 pucks.......

exedy stage 1 but i cant compare it to anything since it came in the car and have never drove a stock one.

havent heard any metalic screeches from it.

act in turbo and a non turbo good so far. both had centerforce dual frictions in them at one point and both went out with relatively tame usage and low miles. it looked like the glue that held on half the friction pads simply came off and they exploded and clogged up the teeth on the friction plate leaving me to drive home a car without being able to disengage the clutch.

Same, i have an XTD 6 puck, i wouldn't recommend it, but i got it brand new for 150 bucks, including pressure plate.

Furb 04-14-10 01:34 PM

i have the ACT street/strip clutch with Extreme pressure plate in my TII...

i currently have 420Nm and it just takes every beating without pain ;)

rxspeed7 04-14-10 08:25 PM

im a glutten for punishment.lol right now i have a hks gd pro twin disc, and before that was a os giken twin disc. they're stiff as hell and suck to drive in traffic but i don't ever have to worry about them slipping. when i first got my t2 i bought a xtd six puck but it gave up very shortly after 2000 miles at 250whp

RXnos1200 04-15-10 12:08 AM

thanks for the info.........

RX7SpiritR 04-15-10 01:41 AM

OS Giken twin plate works nicely for me

DaBrkddy 04-15-10 03:49 AM

I just bought a stock clutch from mazda (Value parts line. Yes, I'm cheap.) for my RX-7 and the disc says exedy on it!
