What causes fuel pulsation dampers to go out?
 

I know they are the leading causes of rotary fire. How do these lines crack? I know when they leak, the fuel gets onto the manifold and is flammable. Eventually overtime will catch on fire. By too much fuel and pressure in the PD? I want to konw!!! Also what is a remedy, I hear that banjo bolts/fittings are like a rebuild or maintance thing? yes or no?

The pulsation damper is not a line. It's a .......damper. What fails is the rubber diaphram tearing and leaking fuel out where the small screw is under the plastci cap on the end. The screw can fall out but no fuel will exit. It's the diaphram that tears and spills fuel.

Replace it is the fix. It's a maintance thing.

They get old, the rubber rots and the diaphram breaks. Basically they age the same as any other rubber part but since the diaphram is much thinner then a fuel line (for example) it is easier for them to leak.

What is the expected lifespan? I'm over 200K on mine.

10-15 years and 150k miles-ish.

You should REALLY consider replacing yours soon. And carry a good fire extinguisher.

You're well past time to replace it. My car had ~160K when I replaced the PD. The screw had fallen into the plastic cap but it wasn't leaking. Yet.
Thing is, it CAN cause a fire. I'd change it the firest time you have a chance. AND carry an extinguisher in the car for good measure.

The pulsation damper is an interesting item, and I have been told in the past to remove it from my fuel rail after I had done all of the modificaitions to my TII. I did in fact remove it about 3 years ago and haven't had any problems since (at least that I am aware of).

It would be interesting to find out if anyone here knows what the negative aspect of removing the pulsation damper is, since we all know that the positive effect would be NO MORE FIRES! LoL

Marren makes an aftermarket one for like 115. Anyone ever try one? also Its rebuildable... But not sure what the cost of a rebuild is... Or how long it last or if it leaks like a stock one when it wears out?
