What is a bridge-port?
 

Okay, i searched and couldn't find what i was looking for, so what is a bridge-port and why do it? If it's for power gains, how much power does it give?

It's a port with a bridge...

I believe it's where the intake ports on the iron inside the engine are ported so large that the 2 intake ports pretty much become one port on the inside. Not alot of people do that, they just do large street ports.

a bridge port is the next step beyond street porting... what you do is basically create another intake passage so more air can be brought into the motor.... the reason for it being called a "bridge port" is due to the little bridge that has to be left so the seals dont fall into the ports as they pass through it..... its designed for non daily driven cars (although some do drive thier b-ported motors daily).... it really all depends on what you want out of your car when deciding on what port job to get.... a street port simply opens the ports up so more air can be brought in, and more power is created in return.... a bridge port is the same priciple, and gives you more power than a street port, but you sacrifice smooth idle and low rpm power....but you gain alot more top end power..... i personally am going w/ a bridge ported motor...... but for most people, a street port is more than adequate...

When i bought my car the guy who owned it didn't really know too much about engine work...he was a styles kinda guy but he said the guy who he bought it from ported it, when it idles on a streetport or a bridge port, does it idle really rough and have like an up and down sound to it? I'm trying to figure out what kinda port job he did, cause it has absolutly no power below 5000, but between 6-8000 it's pretty damn quick, the guy who built it builds rotary race engines for his hobby, and he's very good at it....so i know whatever it is that he did it's a nice job but damn...i'd like to know what it is.....thanx bro!

also, where can i get a hood like yours? Did you make it or what?

you'll know by the distinctive idle...it sound like bbraaaapp bbbrraaaapp bbraaaappp ..... if it sounds like that, its probubly bridged..... and my hood is a prototype, and isnt mine anymore, i sold it about 3 months ago..... and the company that made it, decided not to produce it anymore.....so it is a 1 of 1 hood...sorry...but knightsport makes a hood identical to it, just not in carbon fiber

Do a web search for "valve timing overlap" - the principles are the same for the rotary motor.
