what is this?
 

trying to get the TII up and running and during teardown of the engine I ran into what looks like oil injectors but not sure. one of them is plugged up. my question is how could I unclog or remove it?

Wow. Yes, those are the oil injectors. You should be able to remove them using a 14mm wrench at the base of the injectors. Two of the injectors (I forget which) require you to grind down the face of the wrench to get it to fit into the space available.

Edit: You can probably find some "new" used injectors in much better condition for a cheap price, since a lot of people like to remove them, and premix their gas instead.

lol thats kinda of funny....good old rotarys are full of suprises.....remeber when i first took apart mine i was like what in the hell is that for everything!

Those oil injectors should be replaced with NEW ones not used ones, mainly because if they fail so does your rotory. They are about $150 for new ones for all 4, you need a 17mm wrench to remove them or a socket wrench if you remove even more of the engine parts. That engine is kind of looking hit!!! :)

that engine looks like it was in a flood.

I hope you will be sending that engine out for a rebuild. Good luck with the project..

My god, do you live beside a salt factory? :) I guess the car was exposed to the weather a little...With all the rust in the primary injector holes, have you verified that the engine actually turns and makes compression?

Anyway, those are the oil injectors. You an unclog the old ones if they are not too bad by soaking them in carb cleaner if they are not too badly rusted. If the rust is bad, then you can purchase new ones or easily fiind used ones and then clean them.

Removal can be a bit tricky. You need a THIN 14MM wrench to get at the base. I just bought a cheap made-in-China 14MM wrench and ground it down on the bench grinder until it fit. You'll also need all the copper crush washers which are not part of an engine gakset kit (no idea why). If you look in the FAQ you will find the parts catalog to get the numbers. You need 8 of the big ones for the injectors, and 8 of the small ones for the banjo bolts at the metering oil pump.

To make new lines, just get the tubing at a hydraulic shop. I think you need 4MM nylon tubing but bring your old fittings to make sure because it might be 4.5MM.

I'm not sure I agree with the necessity of buying new, and I was certain I disagreed with the wrench size being 17mm, so I checked my tool box to see which wrench I had ground down. Sure enough, it was the 17mm, as NeCr0mStR states. I was in error when I said 14mm.

I used a big adjustable wrench to get mine off. Came off easy, didn't break or strip anything. Of course mine were just one big nut almost. Hmm maybe S4's and S5's are different.

if I recall the ones on my s5 intake and s4 housings are different sizes

It's 14MM, not 17MM.
