went to HS drags last night

R/T- 1.079
60FT- 2.318
330- 6.451
1/8- 9.870
MPH- 71.39
1000- 12.830
1/4- 15.347
MPH- 88.88

Anyone have any input on this run im thinking i can dip downs into the high 14s because i had a terrible RT and alot of wheel spin.

Car is a 87base with custom exhaust, intake, ported IM, CM clutch, and thas pretty much it and i have no idea of the history of the engine but My friend and I (marcus219) belive my car is streetported but you guys think i can dip to high 14s on how my R/T and 60FT are standing now?

The RT has nothing to do with the final time. Unless you are bracket racing, completely ignore that time. Its 100% meaningless. But you can dip into the 14s with a better 60ft time. Your launch pretty much sucks (takes a lot of practice to get it right). What tires are you running? How are you launching?

marcus219 05-03-03 03:39 PM

it was bracket racing...

i have 195/50/15's all around with the rear tires at 30psi they are some funky brand called Nankang and i was launching at 3300rpm and i would dump the clutch and when it spins i would take my foot off the gas and hit it again.

What width wheels are you running? You should be able to fit at least a 215/55 on them Id think. Instead of dumping the clutch, try holding the revs at around 4k and giving it just a little slip so the tires dont spin.. Also try lowering the pressure in the rear tires, maybe 22psi or something. Remember, our cars dont even start to make decent power until ~4k rpms, so try and keep the rpms up, without spinning the tires as much as possable on the launch. You should be able to get that 60' time down to ~2.0, then you should break 14s..

How many of you think this could be done on stock ports. I feel the engine has to have a street port...I've been in the car, when he pulled (only did it once) all the way to 9,200RPM and it still pulling. That reading was on the s-afc he HAD (not anymore) and his other monster tach....unlike my car, I shift at like 6,400(give or take) cuz I can tell im not making peak power past that..

I have ported IM's, rb header/pre-silencer, CM clutch, 2.5 piping all the way..and I get beat by him pretty easily..

Rxmfn7 05-03-03 07:28 PM

High 14s is entirely possable with stock ports, not really that hard. Pulling to 9000rpm on the other hand, a stock port engine will just not do....

marcus219 05-03-03 07:48 PM

Yea..I guess I hear ya on the stock ports getting high 14's, lots of weight reduction.

rotary>piston 05-04-03 01:31 AM

yeah, do everything you can to the engine (without porting it) and rip out the interior and it should be easy.

marcus219 05-04-03 10:26 AM

I just no it has to be..stock ports will only "rev" to 8100 right...it will make power to that easily and beyond. Although we both agree taking it that high isn't the best thing to do.

r/t 1.079? What were you sleeping on the line! Ouch :) You're 60' is what is really hurting you. You need to get it down to a 2.1 or so. Maybe lose some weight in the car and you might touch 14's...
