WElded diff leaking from halfshafts
i just put in a welded diff not too long ago and finally drove it 10 miles to work when i seen my bumper sprinkled with some kind of oil.. it was my diff fliud.
i work at a dealership so i jacked it up and seen that it was leaking from the halfshaft right after the pumkin...when i filled it up with fluid i had put morethan enought so a heavy stream poured out when i removed the pump, but i dont think it should leak like this?n e suggestions?:dunno: oh yeah and when i put my halfshafts on after welding it i had to use a malet to put them back in? would that be an issue? they were really hard to put in.... |
any suggestions?

LMAO! its leaking from the diff my bad the little part where it slides into the diff and the pumkin... not the halfshaft.
|
could it be the differential side seal, those black ruber pieces?

You can't bump in this section and the fact that you work at a stealership and don't know what an axle seal is baffles me.

http://mazdatrix.com/g7.htm +1 how hard is it to diagnose bad seals in the diff housing, theres 3 seals and 1 surface that uses RTV, and why you would use a hammer to install halfshafts is beyond me. if i worked at this hack shop you apparently work at, i would make fun of you everyday. those black rubber peices have a name and a purpose, you problably fucked them up |

idk I use a hammer too.
I never get leaks from there, maybe if you overfilled the diff it might leak, or broke the seal Just get a new stub shaft seal. Run thicker oil for welded diff |
well...
replace the seal.... |
Welded diff on the street? Hammered half shafts in to install? Theres only 3 seals and there is a question as to what to do?
STOP WORKING ON YOUR CAR, thats what I suggest. |

^ i was thinking the same thing, please explain as to why you need "thicker" fluid

some people shouldn't own cars

I speak from experience.
Thicker oil will help the welded diff bearings last longer, and can help the "whine" noise go away[if you have that prob]. Welded diffs make more stress on the bearings, how do I know? Because I have had my bearings blow up on the freeway before using the usual oil wt. So far My welded diff has gone through 20 +drift events with thick oil and makes no whines or any sounds. Some of you guys are not even trying to help. He is posting on the forum asking for help and all you guys do is bag on them to feel good about your yourself. Everyone have to start somewhere right? Then again t2 rotor guy is hater gator. |
