Weird Startup

New to these rx7s and my new vert I just picked up Friday isn't acting like I've heard they should. I know its supposed to start and go to like 2500 rpm for 20 seconds but mine does it for maybe 5 seconds then will die if you don't touch the gas. Once it gets moving and the engines warm its fine but when its being started up every morning it does this. Any ideas?

Kind of sounds like someone removed the cold start. Stock it has thermowax that that keeps the throttle plates open more when it's cold. As the car warms up the thermowax melts and the idle drops.

If you don't have it then there is nothing to keep the idle up when it's cold. I believe it's because there is less compression when it's cold so it has to keep the idle up so it doesn't die. I could be wrong about that though.

Basically it sounds like the cold start is either gone or not working. Look at the TB on a stock fc then yours and see if there's something missing. I think it's on the backside. Not sure though I haven't had it in forever.

K I will check this in the morning thank you lol. Why would you remove that? lol I mean I understand all the emissions shit but on a cold day it's a pain to keep your foot on the gas for like 5 minutes to keep it alive lol.

A lot of times the coolant lines that run to it get all clogged and nasty so that it doesn't heat the wax so it doesn't melt. That happened to my old motor and it had a surging idle when it warmed up.

Then when I did my turbo swap I eliminated everything I could. I don't really mind having to make it idle with my foot. I'd rather have the simplicity. Plus I live in FL so it warms up fast.

check the fsm. there is a screw to adjust the cold idle start. i just found mine to be out of adjustment
