Weird Problem

Ok, so I have an 88 GXL whos air con./heater blower motor doesnt work. at first i wasnt really in much of a rush because I lived in south florida and its winter time, which means it doesnt get too hot or cold. however, now I live in jacksonville and the temp. reaches the 20s and that's freezing to me. So yesterday I decided to rip everything apart and try and see what the problem was. Well it turns out that the blower motor does work, the switch seems to be functional, I used a test light to test all wires going in/out, and I can hear the relay turning on/off so I assume it is ok. Also, their is power going to the plug for the blower but the blower doesnt turn on unless you disconnect it and then reconnect it. So everytime I turn the A/C or car off I have to disconnect the plug and plug it back up to make the blower come on. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Does anyone have any idea about this?

I really have no idea. But I would try to get my hands on another blower just to test if it makes a difference.

One possibility:
The relay & speed control connectors like to oxidize over time.
Then they get hot, oxidize worse, and loose contact.
This is especially true for the high speed relay.
Clean shiny bright metal-to-metal contact is a must.

Another possibility:
The fan motor may have a bad commutator segment or worn out brushes, and a slight bump is getting it going.
If so, it’s about gone.

Ok, will pick up new blower motor at discount and try it out. if not i guess i'll check for oxidation.
