Send the pics to me at ddub114@comcast.net and I'll host them for you. I might know what you are talking about, too, but I need to see pics.

Got em, and uploaded below I've attached them.

Thought so. In pic 1 that is what's under your "bearing plate." Under this is the end play spacer, one of your thrust bearings, and your thrust plate, but it looks like you've removed some of this already? These are sitting on the stationary gear mounting. You don't have to remove the stationary gear or the plates on top of it if you don't want to. However I always remove the stationary gear to get a better idea of the condition and to check the bearing closer. You can leave those plates on, and the bolts you already took out technically, if you really want to, but when doing your endplay test if endplay is out of spec you'll need to take that plate off to get the the endplay spacer for replacement or sanding, depending on what your results are.

The rear one is the mounting piece for the rear stationary gear. The rear gear NEEDS to come out during rebuild because it has an o-ring that needs replacement, and just like the front one I take it out to inspect the bearing easier. Both stationary gearings will only be removed when the engine is all apart, you'll have to hit them with a rubber mallet on the gear side (inside the engine) get get them out, though. And most likely you'll have to pound them back in to place during reinstallation.

ok, so how do i take off the back gear

ddub 09-03-05 03:35 PM

Same as front, when the engine is fully apart hit it with a rubber mallet on the gear (inside the engine) side and it'll pop out. They're held in place pretty tight by that alignment pin on the side, even without the bolts, so smacking it out is usually needed.

oh so i dont need to take off the end plate to take apart the motor? that makes life much easier

ddub 09-03-05 03:42 PM

End plate? Not sure what you're referring too, but you do NOT need to take off the stationary gears to take the motor apart.

Basically, the way you have it set up in those pics, it's ready to come apart. Just unbolt the tension bolts on the back that under where the flywheel goes, and start pulling stuff apart. Don't worry about removing the stat gears/mounting parts that are in the pics.
