Weird coolant problem
 

Okay so I was having overheating problems before and decided to get a koyo radiator. The temp. is now back to normal but after a couple days the coolant level drops slightly (radiator has enough coolant) but on top of the other cap (next to the alternator) it is empty. Also the overflow tank overfills occasionally. What could be wrong???

You have a leak somewhere that is allowing air to be drawn back into the cooling system as the system cools down. Common places are the overlow hose to the overflow tank, slight leaks around the upper rad hose, leaks around the coolant level sensor. Most of the time these leaks do not leak coolant under pressure, but will leak air under vacuum.

You can pressurize the hose from the rad neck to the overflow tank with your air nozzle from a compressor, but limit the pressure to about 20lbs.


Do a cooling system pressure test, find the leak, fix the problem.

thanks that was good info! would it be worth taking it somewhere to get checked? because i dont have an air compressor right now
