Weird 'clanking' noise in 3rd gear @ 2k RPMs
Just like the thread states, when I shift into third gear, and I am accelerating, not boosting, just going along...I will hear this metal on metal clanking type sound at ~2k RPMs. It won't continue for long, just for ~500 rpms before/after 2k. So I'm not sure, but that sounds like tranny problems, right? I'm going to be getting a new clutch installed soon, since mine is slipping bad...can't floor it in 3rd+ gear without gaining 5 mph before I redline.

Throw out bearing? Bolts on clutch plate touching?
Replace the clutch and the noise will most likely go away. Make sure you replace the shifter bushings to. What type of clutch are you gonna get? |

Go performance clutch! Esp since you might upgrade. Which you will do sometime in the future. A little more grip in the clutch will help off the line performance as well.
A racing clutch isn't much more than a stock setup. So go for it. You should take it out yourself. Try to find someone who will help. It's only a clutch replacement and you have this site if you need any help. The money you will pay in labor can buy you a jack and stands. + tools. You will then have the know how and experiance. I used to think replacing my clutch was more than I could handle. But once I did it I thought that was easy good thing I didn't pay for labor:) Heck with the money you save you could buy a light weight flywheel too. |
