Weird Check Engine Light ( Or maybe it's just me )
For some odd reason...and maybe it's my own ignorance, but my check engine light only flashes when i'm driving. If I turn the key to ignition and leave it there the light does nothing. Doesnt even illuminate. Is there another solution to getting codes off the car?
Also is there a drawback to running with 0 cats on an N/A FC? At one point and I guess it was a month after I pulled my cat I started smelling fuel heavily. Will running open pipe from the exhaust have an adverse effect on gas milage and car performance? :Wconfused -lost in the sauce... :wallbash: |
Engine Check says what it sees at the moment, e.g. your O2 sensor is dead, after a while you get the code, then the ECU goes in open loop and doesn't mind the O2 anymore: the code is gone... until next drive and then check and then open loop...

Code 17?

Its weird... I mean shouldnt the CEL come on when the key is in the Ign position? If not then somethins goin nuts. I just put a new O2 sensor in so its not that. Is there another way to pull codes while the car is not on? Guess i could sit in nuetral and see if it flashes, so far codes only flash while Im driving. Hmmmmmm.

did you try reading the code. And i believe it should come on when you first put your key in and are at the accessory position as a light check function, all newer cars do it im not sure about ours. maybe it would do it is a fault stored in the system. i suggest fixing the fault then worry about the light it seems to be that the light is functioning correctly. also flashing check engine lights are a warning that the fault may cause damage to the catalytic convert but nothing you have to worry about

You have to ground the check connector then turn the ignition to the run position and count the code(s) from the cel. The check connector is the single green connector by the battery. codes are read by long and short flashes of the cel. Long flashes are the first digit short flashes are the second digit. Codes are separated by long pauses.

Some codes show when get the key on, but some only when the engine uses the damaged stuff: the oxygen sensor is not used when cold start until the AWS is off at least.

yeah somethings going on... i was driving and it was flashing but not in code sequence... like it would flash 1 long pause then 2 minutes later it would flash 3 times, then a minute later it'll randomly flash like its trippin, but nothing sequential... Craziness...
