so far i took out 246lbs
i haven't added how much i put back in yet(rollcage and alum seat). the stock seat weights like 35lbs.
i still have more to take out. like sound deadening and somg crap, exhuast stuff.
how much is possiable? race exhaust should be way lighter than stock.............

Well, what have you taken off so far?

Silkworm 10-09-02 11:08 AM

Robert,

Don't forget, you have to meet a minimum weight requirement for ITS.

cut the strut towers in back!

autocrash 10-09-02 11:26 AM

do you mean the speaker boxes? how much are those actually worth (weight wise...)?

rpv 10-09-02 03:57 PM

HI GUYS
paul ...i havn't had the car weighed yet. i'm still working on stuff.
off so far
interior stripped except sound deadening
speaker towers
some useless wires
ac condensor and lines and anything with the ac except whats under the dash. gotta leave the defrost
all interior plastic and head liner
i need to learn about the smog crap and what i can remove for my next project. i'm hoping to do my exhaust
later
robert
oops forgot
the speaker towers were about 1 lbs without speaker
since mine didn't have speakers in them.

autocrash 10-09-02 04:02 PM

ok... thanks... so I guess its not REALLY worth the effort unless your gonna be REALLY anal about it... :D (j/k)

And silkworm, I thought the goal with a racecar was to get it as light as physically possible (without removing structural bits) and then put balast where you want it... :)

Rs4Racer 10-09-02 06:10 PM

yeah...

if your cars gonna be a racecar get rid of the dash and the heater stuff too..

just plop a big tach right in front of the steering wheel... thats all you need.

rpv 10-09-02 08:11 PM

it would be cool to get rid of the dash and all that but the class i'm trying to setup for requires the dash and some other bits to stay.
but i will say this so far the car handles so much better.
i figured the the rollcage weight is about 110lbs and the race seat maybe 10lbs. so i'm still ahead and hope to get some more out. i hope to get it checked soon so i'll let you know. i was looking for someone to tell me what they were able to get there fc down to so i could compare or have a target to shoot for.

Auto,

Unfortunately, Improved Touring rules are an outgrowth of Showroom stock rules.. So basically, they take the published curb weight of the car, multiply it by .98, add 180 lbs for the driver, remove 180lbs for the stuff you can legally remove, and add 115 lbs for the cage, and that's the race weight for the car (The formula is as posted on the IT forum, don't know it that's exactly how they calculated it, but it's close).

So to run IT, you have to run your car, with fluids and driver, at 2680lbs.

So, the goal of an IT legal race car is to get to 2680 lbs with the best weight distribution you can. You do that by getting down below 2680 lbs, and adding up to 100lbs of ballast to reach 2680, but even then, it's very very easy to get an RX-7 below the weight requirements, so you still have to be very careful what you remove.

RS4Racer, that might be true if you don't have any rules, unfortunately, we have to follow rules. I would submit that I'd have a full set of guages, not just tach :)

i would remove as much weight as you can. and say you are 200lbs under then you can add that weight to wherever in the car you want to change the weight distribution.

So to run IT, you have to run your car, with fluids and driver, at 2680lbs.
And don't forget that's at the end of the race. We've been 1lb (literally) overweight before in our IT7 car.

As for balast, there are rules regulating that as well.

IT does have some weird rules, but... oh well those are the rules.

Silkworm 10-09-02 10:21 PM

RS4, except you can't do that, because you're only allowed to add 100lbs, and only in the passengerfootwell, bolted to the floor.

that sucks... i suppose you have to be n/a too?
