Weighed my car...

well i took everything out of my car and weighed it in at 1460lbs with 1/4 tank of gas. removed:
-spare tire 25lbs
-tool kit and jack cant recall weight
-subwoofer and box, amp 65lbs
-rear seats and hatch carpet and sound deadner 25lbs

my car is a 86 luxury model with airpump removed, all AC components still on, no cats and custom exhaust, aluminum hood. these are the only things i can think of that affect weight. im going to remove the AC system, and ill strip the back down before i go to the strip again and weigh it again.

nice...
sounds like a keeper to me.

Boostmaniac 06-09-06 01:06 AM

That can't be right.

Unless that is a typo and you meant 2400 lbs.

cdaleracer669 06-09-06 01:22 AM

ya thats what i meant, sorry LOL 2460

idsigloo 06-09-06 01:26 AM

lol

cdaleracer669 06-09-06 01:27 AM

anyone know what the AC system weighs as a whole. condenser, compressor, lines, and w/e else there is

Stanello 06-09-06 01:29 AM

2460? Not bad...

I really need to get my car weighed... I'm shootin for 2300ish with me in the car :)

Rotary_Knight 06-09-06 11:12 AM

2460lbs aint too bad at all. I'm gonna gut my project car but leave the carpet and stuff up front so it's still comfortable for daily driving. I'm pulling AC and PS though I like it much better that way.

Is weight reduction beneficial for autocrossing, and such? I don't see any benefit to it for street use and the drag strip. Only reason I say this is that you only gain 1/10th of a second for every 100lbs removed:)

Thats so not true...

And weight reduction is good for EVERYTHING. Improves cornering, acceleration, braking...there is no negative, except top speed stability.

RoughRex 06-09-06 11:37 AM

Weight reduction is also good for cornering capabilities as you have less mass fighting with your tire traction to go straight while you turn....if that makes sense.

lol...I got a phone call in the middle of typing this and u beat me to posting. :P

less weight also means better gas mileage

weight reduction also reduces wear on items like brakes and tires and the drivetrain.

cant complain about that!

especially if you are also going faster!

I just posted a thread about some lexan or speedglass windows. Check it out, it will save you over 100 lbs. Lighter IS better!

DaveTurnerMotorsports 06-09-06 03:06 PM

2448lbs in the '89 GTUs, full interior, rear seats, removed dealer-installed A/C, aftermarket cats (8lbs vs 16 for main cat), single exit exhaust.

15 gallons of gas = 6.216lbs/gal * 15 = 93.24lbs

So by running our cars empty at the strip we are only saving less than 1/10th a second by that logic.

[QUOTE=adrock3217]Thats so not true...

Drag racing rule-of-thumb for a long time. Not completely correct though. But saying you could pick-up .5 sec. by removing 500 lbs. is not unreasonable.

gscully 06-09-06 08:20 PM

you can't say you'll pickup .1 of a second by losing 100lbs. The heavier a car is the smaller the effect losing 100lbs will have on it's power to weight ratio. The effect of losing wieght to 1/4mile times is not going to be a linear relationship.

Jigsaw 06-09-06 09:42 PM

I need to give my RX-7 some weight loss to, what's stock weight?

My point exactly! It's a generalisation. ;)
