water seals.....

correct me if i'm wrong but if you have the radiator cap off for lets says 10 mins and no water shoots out then the seals are ok correct???

cause i've had this overheat problem where i've been losing water and overheating a little, i'm thinking it was the thermostat, i gutted it out and went for a drive and all seemed well.....

ok so i used a coolant sealant as a last resort. i let it run for 30 mins and then let it set. so then i wake up this morning after all that and coolant is missing about a cup of water. if the hose next to the plugs is leaking air would that burn some coolant. cause the hose has had oil dropped on it looks like forever.

I'd first recommend putting a new Mazda thermostat in.
Then buy a tester from parts store that reads HCs in coolant to see if water seals are bad.
Then replace that heater hose if its oil soaked.

My car hasn't been overheating (that I can tell) but I have been lossing water, If I go for 2 weeks without adding water my add coolent buzzer comes on and I relize my radiator is almost bone dry. My car also smokes at high rpms and when I decelerate for high rpms it smokes all the way down, kinda has the smoke screen affect, dunno if thier related though

black, see now that sounds like its coolant seals. mines loses water but doesnt smoke at all except for the usual startup smoke. other then that the car is fine. i gutted the thermostat so the car runs at 1/4 or below the whole time.
