Water pump replacment

When I removed my water pump on my 91 TII I was able to pull the pump off with very little seperation of the housing to engine seal. That gasket is less than 2000 miles old.

Do you guys think it will leak if I do not replace it?

For the price of a gasket ($3.03), I wouldn't want to find out.

Always replace gaskets...It is a must...Under 5 bucks..Replace the gasket and have no worries...

yeah the only time its worth saving a gasket is when its the metal kind, but they can usually be reused. like the $50 turbo outlet gasket. unless its in really bad shape, gaskets like that are ok. but something like a $3 one, just dont even bother. its going to be a lot more of a hassle to have to always check to see if your used gasket is leaking or not, even though it doesnt leak you know? so just spring the $3

Ok, I replaced it:) It came with my warentied water pump. Good thing I still had the reciept. That thing was about $82.

I dunno, I have seen posts saying that water pump replacment is about an hours worth of work. Maybe it is because I have a TII with the extra stuff to get in the way. But for me to replace the radiator and water pump it took nearly five hours. And I am working solo on the side of a city street. It blows.

Guess I am just slow. Oh well, hope it all works. That new radiator is nice looking. I was surpised but it came with a new water low sensor and a new drain plug. And I now have new foam on the bottom of the radiator and the top to seal up the gaps. That came with it too:)

Where to find the housing to engine gasket

Besides ordering one from Mazdatrix, where have you been able to find the housing to engine gasket. I live in a small town and the guys at the NAPA store looked at me like I had a purple head when I went in looking for that gasket.

Does somewhere like Autozone or Advance carry one like that? I can get to one of those stores this afternoon, but wanted to save some driving if I could. Any help is appreciated!!!

Advance auto should have it, or be able to get it within a day. I work there, so I have a pretty good idea :)

As for taking 5 horus to take out the water pump, next time it will be faster. When I was troubleshooting the cooling problems on my old TII I was able to get all that stuff off and back on in under an hour.

Matt,

Thanks for the reply---I didn't have any luck at our advance auto over here and even called Bap Geon in Norfolk. They said they could order me one. I went ahead and ordered one through Mazdatrix (hated to pay the shipping--especially when they don't disclose the amount at the time of the order.)

Next time, I will know what I am doing. Didn't expect the housing to come loose from the block, but now that I see how it is all put together it makes sense. Hope everyone had a great day with their 7--looks like mine will be out of commission for a couple more days.

Man, you should have visited the banner ad at the top.

Mazdaformance.com

There prices should beat mazdatrix very well.

5 hours! im doing my waterpump right now in my S4 gxl and it took like a hour to get everything off is there a certain reason why it took 5 hours on a TII

Wankel7 08-24-02 07:33 PM

Dunno, man....I did the radatior too and it was 90°F plus?
