If the starter fuse is blowing right away, disconnect the starter and see if it still blows... |
if a fuse blows you're looking for a short circuit. the starter circuit is really simple too...

You need to give more details man, and use common sense. How bad was the car flooded, how high did the water get?

and which fuse are you referring to?
i'm scratching my head as there isn't a fuse dedicated to the starter, it does split off of the 80amp fuse to the alternator though so your alternator could be the root cause especially if it is blowing with the ignition off. the starter circuit should not even be engaged with the key off and the switch is a simple contact rotator mechanism which i can't envision failing in the manner were aiming at here. the starter itself is hard wired to the battery, you wouldn't even be able to hook up the battery if the starter was shorted internally. if you're turning the key to start the car and it is blowing a fuse, different story... look at the alternator wiring and be sure it's not grounding out anywhere, next step disconnect the alternator charge wire and wrap it up and try again. |

are you hooking up the battery correctly?
The Positive is Black, and the negative is the cable with the yellow stripe. |

Seriously? Water as in flood damage? That would be EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL. The long term effects on old wiring will have you chasing electrical gremlins every time you start the car. Even when it dries out you will have corrosion eating into everything from where the water was in contact. That's why even brand new cars are totaled from water damage. If you have a donor car you can swap the wiring with however.... FWIW, Crispy |

The engine ECU is on the passenger floor, with connectors on the bottom,so if the water got in there,,good luck.
