Wastegate Won't Close-Low Boost
I've been having some boost issues so I pulled my turbo off. My problem was that boost was taking a long to build, and I couldn't got over 10-12psi even with the wastegate seeing no pressure.
I found that there is a lot of play in the wastegate door. Even after bending the wastegate actuator and arm, it still is able to open a bit. I can almost close it all the way, but after it opens, it won't sit in the same position. I drove the car afterwards, and boost built quicker, and I hit almost 14psi before letting off. I cracked open my boost controller, and was getting about 5 psi. So I closed it again, and got 12.5psi. Boost is now building quicker, but this is hardly the way I want to be running. I guess my question is, is my only option to buy another stock turbine section? How much play is normal for the wastegate door? |
The actual wg arm is difficult to move by hand. If you can move it really easily something is wrong. Maybe the spring is worn out?

i was going to suggest checking your WG solenoid with a vaccum pump. be sure it doesn't bleed down, if it does then you have a torn seal or a pinhole in it, if it does bleed down then replace it.
