Warm feet—is this normal?

I've had my 1988 FC convertible since June (bought it from the GF when she got something new). I've noticed that after driving for an hour or so, especially at slow speeds in heavy traffic, it feels like there's warm air on my feet. The fan is set to the vent position and I do generally run the fan, even with the top down (I find my back gets a little less sweaty), so I'm not sure why I would feel warmth on my feet. Is it normal? I've read that it's normal to feel some warmth if you make a fist around the shift boot and that the center tunnel can feel a bit warm, but I haven't found anything about the driver's side footwell.

I guess my question is whether it is normal, or should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance.

It's your exhaust that is warming up the underneath of the car, speacially at low speeds. I have noticed this when I am driving slow for a while. Even at highway speed you can touch the transmission tunnel and it will be warm...

Some exhaust insulation might solve the problem...

I get this too. I figure it's just heat from the engine bay. Kinda handy on cool nights though :)

i thought it was a hole that was made in the firewall...guess i'll just have to put that back on (exhaust insulator pan)

ya,i had the same problem as well, except i didnt have anything after headers....so im sayign mine was a exhaust problem in general....i burned the hell out of my hand everytime i touched the transmission "hump" (i guess u could call it)(i took out the center console)

Thanks, folks. I guess I won't worry about it, then, unless I suddenly smell burning foot hair!
