Waht would you consider the most intense job you've done on your FC in 2004?
 

My FC is my fourth car, and I'm 24. I've always done my own repairs, and there's something about the FC that makes me want to actually work on it. Today was my day off, and nothing was really wrong with it, but I still had to go out and tinker with things. I get to the point where I'm scouring the forums just to find a good weekend project that won't suck the bank dry. :D

Along with that, I've had the chance to really dig into it and go a little further on my own then I normally would have. By now I would have called my father or uncle up and had them come over and help me out, but I've been able to do everything myself with the help of the rotary community (thank you).

So, to commemorate or something like that, I'd like to start a thread about the biggest thing you've done to your FC this year, and your FC New Year's Resolution.

The biggest thing I did was remove the UIM, replace the injectors, and a bunch of vacuum lines. It was pretty scary because I was certain something would slip into the intake runners while I was cleaning the sealing surface at the end, and I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get everything installed back in the proper spot. I also was unfamiliar with fuel injection systems ince all my old cars had carbs. :D It went pretty well, and the car was better off afterwards (always the sign of a sucessful job).

My resolution will be to keep it clean and make it cleaner. Next up is cleaning my interior wiring up, add a small sub, and repair all the broken interior pieces. After that, it's on to suspension bushing replacement and some body work.

removing the goood damm DTss bolts...(that project will transfer to 2005) and geting my blower motor working properley

i just got my 2 rx7's earlier this year and they were my first cars they both run good so i never really had to do anything to them yet i also aint to good with working on them yet since i still dont know much about engines ect all i did was put in a fd alt and some gauges and other odds n ends my new years resolution is to get bigger injectors hopefully a fmic fuel pump and new turbo

Removing every single nut and bolt in the engine bay....and then putting it back together... :(

tearing it apart piece by piece, packing the parts, and sending them off to various people across the united states. my car lives forever!

mine wasnt hard it was just disasterous... removed everything down to the lower manifold to remove my ports because they were non functional and all hell broke loose... first my omp lines broke from old age and being brittle... now i premix cause no parts in town, its cleaner for the engine, im to cheap to buy new omp lines, and i was going to in the future but it came just a bit earlier than i intended... then my lower manifold cracked reinstalling it because of one freakin small piece of gasket i didnt see, so jb welded that bitch back together (small crack.. not all the way through) then i put the manifold gasket back on badwards with the silicone on it hence making a huge blue mess having to peel it back off reclean it all and relube it all... got it all back together and the thing was flooded to hell... i had to pull the plugs and clean them good and then do my "secret" unflooding trick to finally get it started... what a disaster it was but now it runs hard and quick so im pleased with it all :)

i did the 5spd swap in march :) annnd this needs a bump to the lounge...

Replacing the engine and realizing that the lines my dad cut because he thought they were useless were the Oil Injection Lines. :rolleyes:

Pulling my non-turbo drivetrain and replacing it with a turbo drivetrain with a 13b-re and my t04s.. and then starting to wire my wolfv4.. in one day (not a long day either.)


Now. if i could just get it to fire..

Rebuilt the engine.

most intense? well that's all relative...

i wouldn't even call it intense but it was the most work i did on the car in one sitting:

saturday morning i pulled the engine out, saturday at noon i disassembled the engine, saturday afternoon i diagnosed and repaired the problem, saturday evening i reassembled the engine.

late sunday morning i reinstalled the engine, sunday evening i started the engine and took it for a test drive.

i took screw around breaks to come and harass people here about every hour or so and breakfast lunch and dinner and coffee breaks, parts run breaks, sit on my ass breaks, etc... all in between.

But as for me...

The biggest project I had ever undertaken 3 months ago was changing the master brake cylinder.

Now, three months later...

I've done plenty of things...

Pulled the engine, tranny, etc etc.

Rebuilt and painted the engine by myself. =) (Well, actually I should say KEVIN did all the work he could possibly do through PMs... lol... Thanks very much Kevin)

Did some stuff relating to the rebuild, replacing tranny rear seal, putting on a new 6 puck clutch/heavy pressure plate (yeah, this is a daily driver and weekend warrior... should be... interesting :P)

Changed the power steering rack to a manual rack. (Pulling the power steering rack was more of a PITA then it should have been.)

Dropped the entire rear subframe from TWO cars and swapped them. This, and putting the engine into the car WITH THE TRANNY ALREADY IN, were the only two times I really _NEEDED_ help. The engine probably could have gone without help but it took me an hour to line things up even with help. The subframe is probably near impossible without a person on each side to line up the frame dowels.

Changed the front control arms (if you're wondering... I was taking the entire suspension from a 150k car and putting it onto this 250k car... yeah, probably not much difference in bushings... but I felt it was worth it)

Changed the brake lines to steel brake lines. (Well, the front.. I didn't do the back yet... but I haven't bled the brakes yet either, the car is still on stilts haha... should take me like 5 mins to change the lines... _seriously_ it's so easy.)

Installed the rebuilt engine, reconnecting everything... is... a total bitch. I need to make a CHECKLIST of EVERY plug, I SWEAR I'll do it next time! It would save people like me sooo much time to have a checklist of EVERY plug on the car to reassure it's plugged in. And while I am at that I'll make a list of the hoses too.. NEXT time! haha

That's about where I'm at.

Plans for this year are getting everything just STOCK but in good long-term condition. And getting the interior in great condition... it mostly is... but I'll be putting in my GXL seats (mmmm heavy) and maybe the door panels, which would also mean changing over to power windows... have to install the fog lights...

Oh this list just goes on.

lol, not like i choose to pull my engine and overhaul it every weekend... funny thing is i have to do it all over AGAIN!!! now i just need a set of rotor housings that i can beat up with my grinder.... wish the previous owner would have used coolant instead of iron mixed with water in the cooling system.


ahh well, every time i have the engine out i find something else to upgrade on it. :) this time i think i will port the wastegate because i have a feeling when my exhaust system shows up i will need the WG to be ported.

got the car december 19th i belive... so far Monsa Headers... Gutted Cat... Custom 2 1/4 piping to Single Muffler (LOUD)... plan on doing a 13B Cosmo swap in the next couple of months..

screw the 13b.. put a 20b in there! ;)

lol my friend has that with a GT42 in hes 89... dont wanna do everythin like him so im gonna try to get 500+ out of the Cosmo... just gotta sell the bike and il have all the funds...
