Wacky Water Temp gage

For all you guys out there with aftermarket Water temp gages, did you use the stock sender or the one supplied by the company you got your gage from? The reason i ask is because when I start my car, no matter how cold it is, the needle shoots right up to like 150-180 degrees, then in less than a minute its buried past the 250 mark. I have no clue, I even bought a new gage to make sure it wasn't the actual gage but it still does it. What could it be? Thanx

So.. Did you plan to tell us what sender and what brand guage you used?

You have to use the sender that comes with the guage. Using the stock sender to feed the guage is wrong.

Post if you want ideas placing a sender.

I got the Phantom Auto Meter gage, and didn't want to go drilling holes into the block so I used the stock sender in the stock location. So your saying I have to use the auto meter sender, that's what I thought but it didn't fit. Thanx

thats why u should blame tha shop u bought it from for not selling u the right fitting adapter.. same shit happened to me with my oil pressure sending unit..... tha sonofab**** didnt wanna fit it was too big.. luckily i had an adapter laying around... the aftermarket gauge wont work with the stock sending units

You have to use the sender unit from the company that made the gauge. when I installed the sensor for mine, I actually wanted to use the stock one, but a buddy of mine at Napa said different brands of sensors have different resistance. You need to install an Autometer sensor for it to work.

Thanx guys, do you guys by chance know the thread size for the stock sending unit, and where to get an adapter for the sending unit? Thanx again.
