Vinyl Car Wrap & Surface Area Q's
 

Hey I wanted to know if any one knew the surface area for the RX7. Also has anyone ever done the rx7 there is no seams from the roof to the rear quarter panels. how did everyone do this?

I ask because I have an uncle who does this for customers and one of they paid a for the materials at the shot but never picked them up at all and it been 8 months and no call or return calls from him so Im just going to vinyl wrap the car.

I would be asking your uncle about the install, not us. Nothing you can do with wraps there has to be a seam somewhere.

You make a seam.

True make a seam but make it were your car has a seam. Such as, between door and fender or ur trim line and so on. I only have one pic of a dood I know that did his and it looks great

I have seen entire cars vinyl wrapped before and they always do it piece by piece over sections of the body. Example: When they wrapped the hood they didn't add any extra vinyl they just covered the hood pressed the moisture out and box knifed gently around the edges that disappeared under the hood. Similarly you do this to the fenders ETC. Just remember that the hardest part is going to be over the main body/hatch. I would personally take my car in to be professionally done when it comes to vinyl there is a ton of prep work and it's not easy at all. One air bubble or grain of sand is going to make your vinyl job look like steaming pile-o-shit TM.

he is asking about the roof and quarters, not the easy parts like the hood and doors

The roof quarters down to the side below the hatch and around the tail lights have to all be done in one piece I believe.

guess that would depend on what was on the wrap, I cant see any kind of wording being done in one piece like that, a solid color mayybe?
I just cant see it being done in one piece without a really wicked template being cut and scanned and then it would take a awfully wide cutting machine to make that in one piece no?

I am about to do this on my black FC with some matte baby blue
and this topic is ONE of my concerns

mostly likely(or definitely) and papers are only 60" wide MAX OUT
So no way it will go one piece

I think I am going to do the roof in one piece, but the rear quarterz and above rear lights
will be one piece too (one side all the way to the other)

and use another color (some color combo) used on the car to close and cover the
gap/line between the roof and the fenders


this method will waste awful lots of vinyl:scratch:

You are correct. You have to make a seam somewhere when it comes to wrapping the roof and the side.
If it's a pattern, it is pretty eay to hide. Solid colors, not so much.

so I know I am not adding any thing useful here yet, but I am also about to start a full DIY wrap of my FC I figure I will put a seam where the B pillars meet the rear quarters and seal the edges I can't think of any other way to go about this. and at least the seam will run horizontal and as much as possible be out of the air stream I may also have a slight overlap from the roof over the fenders to help keep moisture from working into the seam. if any one has photos of progress I would love to see them, I will be starting with the moon roof , headlamp covers and fuel door this weekend then moving on to larger sections.
