very strange question about my atkins reman...

first of all, i bought an atkins stock-port reman shortblock from shane @ rotaryworks.

strange observation #1
right when we picked the engine up and i got it home, i noticed that the flywheel was slightly thicker than the one on my blown s5TII block... so i looked at the numbers on the backside of the flywheel and it says 318. oh shit its an s4 flywheel

strange observation #2
i'm thinking, 'so it has an s4 flywheel, it has to have s4 rotors and counterweight right?' i look inside the exhaust ports with a flashlight and see the perfectly machined lines that all s5 rotors have, also NO casting like the s4 rotors have...

strange observation #3
the front cover is definitely s5 which is what confuses me.

now after all these observations i am guessing that i could possibly have a s5 TII shortblock that has s4 rotors/counterweight/flywheel... but my car runs very well and quite smooth. i was always under the impression that s5TII electronics trying to run s4TII rotors with the lower compression would be all out of whack and not run right... but then agin there is no casting on my rotors so i'm really just confused since you cant have an s4 flywheel and s5 rotors...

oh you *can* have an s5 flywheel and s4 rotors... it just wont be super happy

Why didn't you get back with Shane and have him explain it (or try to explain it)?

jacobcartmill 06-27-04 09:37 PM

coincidentally he didnt know anything..

what if i really have all S4 rotating parts and s5TII electronics?

WAYNE88N/A 06-27-04 09:42 PM

I thought you already said you verified there were S5 rotors in there because of the "clean bathtub" look?

How about the "if it works don't f%ck with it" mantra?

just wondering if it would be possible to have an s4 flywheel since i think i have s5 rotors...

I don't believe it's the rotors that make the difference. It's the front counter weight that has to match the flywheel.
