Really, the 'vertical doors' should be reserved for older Lamborghinis, and the occasional riced-out Civic. They're just hideously unattractive. Furthermore, like other members have said, they compromise the structural integrity of the car when you're in a collision.

PLEASE don't ruin a perfectly good 7 with rice parts :( You are angering the Rotary Gods.

mmsadda- i agree with you, except i think they "look" cool. I would nver personally dissect my car in such a fashion.

haven't gone through the entire thread yet, but that's 100% false. you actually need LESS space to open them than regular doors.

icemark, you entertain me soooo much, everytime i see you post something about doors, you always say the same thing "in the case of side impact.." paranoid much? its just funny, not being rude or offensive. just entertains me, but you have a VERY legit argument. roll cage with door rails anyone?
i still want cf doors with a full 12 point cage in my 7, or datsun, dont care which.

Paranoid? I almost got T-boned on my driver side on my way to work the other morning. Was damn nearly hit by a freakin' Korean piece of shit. Kia Spectra 5-door hatch. Bright blue. So I'm assuming the driver was blind, because he was looking over at me while stopped only a few inches from me acting as if it was my fault that he tried to do highway speed through a red light intersection... Flippin' git! I flicked him off and drove away. Then at the next light, the woman that was in the camry behind me who almost saw a pretty damn bad accident rolled her window down and asked me if I was alright.

The side impact issue could be mitigated with gullwings quite easily. While I'm not about to say that I have the engineering knowledge to predict how a modified door would behave in a side impact, the addition of a strong metal frame tying the door to the roof and a 2nd door latch at the front of the door probably means a structure stronger then the original.

Insurance wise, it's a whole other issue...

Vertical doors shouldn't be much worse then standard doors. The hinge location is the same, as is the latch location. Most often the hinges are much more massive and need to be securely welded to the inner fender.
