vert tranny crossmember *auto>5speed*
 

ok so i have been hearing that i dont need to weld a crossmember for the tranny swap.

but hten i hear that i do bc the 88 convertibles didnt need to weld a crossmeeber
and i have an 89/90 vert.

*it was made in 12/89, so basically a 90 model*i think*.ha

but yeh.

also for jacking up the car, i looked at the fsm and all that other good shit and the little white dude doesnt exactly tell me where to jack the car up at.

does anybody ahve any exact photos???

and i dont need flamers it will just help me with this swap.

V8Kilr's write-up in the 2nd Gen archive shows how to use the auto tranny bracket along with custom brackets (complete measured drawings provided :lol: ). RotaryResurrection's writeup in the Tech Section of his site shows how to use just a length of C-channel to bridge the gap.

We followed VKKilr's method. In his thread there are several people that belittle his approach. YMMV.

Note that I had the brackets made up exactly as per his instructions and checked them to be sure (his instructions are in 1/16ths of an inch) and they were perfect. But when we went to install them the holes were like 3/4" too far apart; like the whole engine was shifted backwards 3/4". To get the driveshaft in I had to force it in the fit was so tight. Ended up with a lateral slash across my left ring fingernail. Its weird seeing blood coming out of the middle of your fingernail. :scared: So if you follow V8Kilr's method, I suggest having the part A and part B's made up and then fit them on the installed tranny and THEN have them welded.

I made several sets of brackets using V8Kilr's writeup and they came out perfect each time. Perfect fit and great strength.
