Vert top issues and a myriad of electrical issues
 

Hello, all. I own a 1991 vert and until today it has been running perfectly fine. To clarify: the engine runs perfectly fine, it drives like normal like it always has.

Now, about the issues. The first issue is that the top is completely unresponsive to the control switches. The second issue is warning beeps that have to do with the power steering computer.

Issue with the top: Out of the blue, my top decided that it no longer likes the control buttons. Up until this afternoon, my top has worked completely fine, I've never had a single issue with it. I put it down this morning with no struggle but when decided it had gotten just a bit too hot outside I pressed the switch to put it back up and... nothing. No beeps, no motor sounds, nothing but the click of the switch itself. Went home and tried to lift the top manually (which, btw, was an absolute pain in the a** to even unscrew the screws as they're not directly lined up with the holes). The top moved even less when I had loosened the motor screws to move it manually (so I retightened them later). Checked the fuses and they're all completely fine. Checked the pins in the wiring for the switch and they're totally fine as well. I always make sure the E-brake is engaged as well before I attempt to raise or lower the top, the brake light on the idiot cluster always lights up when I engage it. I have no clue why it won't work. :scratch:

Second issue: Once I got home, I turned the key to just turn on the battery and not start the engine, and it has started beeping. I looked into it and it seems to be the power steering computer. According to the FAQ, there are different beep codes. Mine is beeping three different codes. The first time it beeped once (speed sensor/harness issue), the second time it beeped twice (speed signal missing/no input found), the third time it beeped, it beeped thrice (broken wires/short circuits in coils). Then it just started to repeat that pattern. I didn't time it out but it seemed to have a 45 to 60-second pause between these sets of beeps. On occasion, it would also do what seemed like an attempt to beep twice but the second beep would get cut short (these would usually occur after the single beep code and before the double beep code). So, (pardon the silly example) instead of "beeep beeep" it will go "beeep bee-."

I have very limited knowledge of mechanics so laymen's terms are highly appreciated (but any advice at all would be a major help). Thank you all very much in advance! (This is also my first post on these forums so my apologies if I put this thread in the wrong place)

check the ground cables. Its a start.
