Vert Hardtop. where to find?

Does anyone know where I can find the hardtop version of the convertible to make it look non-vertable haha. Also does anyone know where I can find a TII hood or replica? Thanks.

first, wtf are you talking about LoL... are you talking about a different vert hood? i'd say a junkyard...
and second... putting a turbo hood on a na is about the GAYEST thing you can do.

dynevahn 09-23-04 10:43 PM

no no no.. dude. im doing a turbo swap. im talking about the convertible vinyl top. ive seen a convertible hardtop, like this

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/492613

powrdby13B 09-23-04 10:47 PM

less ricey...
i did a turbo swap a couple times and i decided that speacro fmic's beat the hell out of tmic's
(search ebaymotors for spearco)... just a tip... look in a junkyard for the hood thow
and that top is neat LoL...

version13 09-23-04 10:48 PM

That looks like just a painted vinyl top.

pinkfloyd 09-23-04 10:52 PM

thats because it is just a painted vinyl top.

Andrew89GTU 09-23-04 11:09 PM

yeah WTF you guys. that's a normal vinyl top that's been painted, or well something has been put on it that's hard, maybe bondo or some other shit like that, and then painted to match the car.

i mean i admit it looks pretty nice, but.... it's a fucking convertible.... you don't buy a convertible so you can make it a hardtop. you buy a convertible because it's CONVERTIBLE. that's the only advantage (seeing as how the 'verts are heavier than coupe's)

anyways.... just my $.02

-Andrew- :-D

adamlewis 09-23-04 11:11 PM

Ive never been aware that anyone ever even made a hardtop for the verts. Maye over in J-world...But definitely not here.

marlaman 09-23-04 11:11 PM

Definetly not a hardtop, lol if you look at his page his "future mods" include upgrading his fuel injection system or someshit like that. i wonder if he knows he's allready getting plenty of fuel for an n/a
Matt:)

That's your opinion...

Obviously this owner never puts the top down, the subwoofer box in the rear of the car would tearup the top if he tried:

I think the "hardtop" is permanent, so he really has a coupe now. It's probably a cloth top that has been fiberglassed over. Notice the "ridges" are still there like the softskin frame is underneath, but now there is no center divide separting the targa/hard top in the front from the flexible vinyl skin in the rear.

I think it looks horrid. If you want a coupe, by a damn coupe!! They're cheaper and easier to find anyway.

vaughnc 09-24-04 02:52 PM

If you could "pop off" the hardtop in the summer and raise the soft vinyl top, then it would be a good attempt at a hardtop for the winter.

Ocelot 09-24-04 04:22 PM

Maybe if it was more rounded out instead of looking like it was just a shell over a soft top it would be decent.

F1blueRx7 09-24-04 06:25 PM

I think if they just made a hardtop like the miata has a hardtop (required in some racing classes) that would be fine. But IMO... that looks terrible.

BLKTOPTRVL 09-24-04 07:30 PM

Looks like the top was no good anymore so he "hardened" it with paint and whatever else (cheap substitution for a replacement top).

That's one of the worst looking things I have ever seen.

What's with the holes in the rear fender and roof?

MidnightOwl 09-24-04 10:30 PM

He rigged that thing up hardcore! If you want a hardtop shell (like the Miatas), too bad. To my knowledge nobody makes them for the 7. Most likely because the Miata is only offered in the convertible form (there is a coupe model available in Japan), and the Rx-7 is both vert and coupe. If you have such a problem with the convertible look when its closed, drop the top and f#%kin' keep it real.

gerbraldy 09-26-04 07:40 AM

that shit is fucking gay. I'm working on a hardtop for my vert, I'll post pics when I'm done with it, it'll be alot better than that color'd softtop.

89droptoprx7 01-04-05 04:26 PM

hate to bump this topic, but has anyone seen one or know who could make one, that'd be sweet for winter, increase the longivity of the softtop too. :bigthumb:

The hard top photo earlier in the thread was used by coating the soft top with fiberglass and then painting it. It wouldn't be too difficult to build one.

tecknomage 01-04-05 05:28 PM

ya know I have thought of turning my vert in to a coupe because I need a new top because even though duck tape comes in black you can still tell when your up close that and Mazda never did make a coupe they make a hatchback

jhammons01 01-04-05 06:05 PM

Guys, Leatherseats.com will make a top out of all kinds of material and colors. Just call em up and ask for what you want. I am sure they can find some tacky vinyl red material to match that picture. Their tops start at $250 for a Rex. I read a lot of good things about their quality and how easy it is to mount......found on the Miata boards

There aren't holes in the fender that is just photo flash distortion associated with a Digital camera.

Parastie 01-04-05 06:16 PM

Umm...i don't see vert tops anywhere on Leatherseats.com...???
